Anyone excited?

Honestly, this is the first piece of anything about the new movie brought to my attention, and it got me all excited again.

Oooh, me too. I thought Order of the Phoenix was the best executed of the Potter films, despite it being one of my least favorite books, so I'm really hoping they do this one justice. And, judging from the amount of Harry in that trailer as opposed to the amount of Tom Riddle and Dumbledore (the people the book are actually focused on), it looks like it should be a bang-up job.

Did I use that phrase right? I've never said it out loud, not normally being British.

normally being British.
The words normal (or any version thereof) and British don't belong in the same sentence. Ever.

Fred, such a silly thing to ask. That trailer looks awesome; I'm terribly excited.

This is my FAVORITE (2nd favorite? closely tied with Azkaban?) Potter book and I think the trailer looks phenomenal!

I'm very excited!
you snooze, you lose
well I have snozzed and lost
I'm pushing through
I'll disregard the cost
I hear the bells
so fascinating and
I'll slug it out
I'm sick of waiting
and I can
hear the bells are
ringing joyful and triumphant

And what a good trailer! Way to focus on something specific instead of just random flashes of everything.

*puts on britishness hat*

I'm not sure something 'should be a bang-up job', you can 'do' a bang-up job, say 'it was' one or 'hope they do' one but I'm not sure there's a way to use it in a future sense. Doing so might dilute how good doing things bang-up are: How can you tell how bang-up a job is before it's happened yet? You could however say 'it should be a well proper job' which is a little less established but is vaguely accepted british if you're anywhere but on the BBC.

this is my favorite book of the series. so I was disappointed that Yates was doing it as well, but dammit this trailer gives me hope that the movie might actually be good.

favorite books:

1. Half-Blood Prince
2. Deathly Hallows
3. Prisoner of Azkaban
4. Goblet of Fire
5. Chamber of Secrets
6. Order of the Phoenix
7. Sorcerer's Stone

favorite movies:
1. Goblet of Fire
2. Prisoner of Azkaban
3. Order of the Phoenix
4. Sorcerer's Stone
5. Chamber of Secrets

The trailer looks pretty good, but I've been wrong before. Let's see.

Books:
1) Deathly Hallows
2) Half-Blood Prince
3) Prisoner of Azkaban
4) Goblet of Fire
5) Chamber of Secrets
6) Order of the Phoenix
7) Sorcerer's Stone/Philosopher's Stone

Movies:

1) Chamber of Secrets
2) Sorcerer's Stone/Philosopher's Stone
3) Order of the Phoenix
4) Goblet of Fire
5) Prisoner of Azkaban

Weird how I liked my least favorite books best and didn't care about the ones I really liked. I guess I had high expectations for those.

'sprobably it. While I love Gary Oldman, there are too many other things in Prisoner that I just flat out disagree with.

I am pleased with how many of y'all love that book, though. 'round these parts not many share the same feelings.

(I'm sticking with strict American-isms after Yebra's correction, informative as it was.)

i never knew bang up job was a briticism (or is that britishism), as I've been heard it in use and used it since I was little.

I never knew that "bang up job" was supposed to be a complement.

This was my least favorite book out of the series, but hopefully it will make a good movie.

Books:
1) Order of the Phoenix
2) Goblet of Fire
3) Deathly Hallows
4) Prisoner of Azkaban
5) Sorcerer's Stone
6) Chamber of Secrets
7) Half-Blood Prince

Movies:

2) Prisoner of Azkaban
3) Sorcerer's Stone
4) Chamber of Secrets
5) Goblet of Fire

I do not grok.

First? Out of all 5 that have been released so far?
Movies:
1) Order of the Phoenix
2) Prisoner of Azkaban
3) Sorcerer's Stone
4) Chamber of Secrets
5) Goblet of Fire
Yes. Only for me, 1 and 2 go back and forth.

Wow, trailer looks pretty good! Though the HP trailers usually look good, and then the movies make you slightly more disappointed, so I'm not raising my expectations up this time...

Books:

1. Deathly Hallows
2. Order of the Phoenix
3. Half-Blood Prince
4. Goblet of Fire
5. Prisoner of Azkaban
6. Sorcerer's (of Philosopher's) Stone
7. Chamber of Secrets. By a LONG shot. (It was just too creepy)

Movies:

1. Chamber of Secrets
2. Order of the Phoenix
3. Prisoner of Azkaban
4. Goblet of Fire
5. Sorcerer's (of Philosopher's) Stone

I do not grok
How the trio relate to one another, Newell's the only one to really nail that from the books, it's the only time the trio really felt like the trio in the movies. And that's more important than anything else, imo. That and I thought it was a pretty beautiful distillation of the book. I was annoyed that a dragon called the Chinese Fireball was not in fact an asian style serpent dragon (think mushu) but was a typical western medieval dragon. and I thought the trashing of hogwarts during the dragon scene was silly. But otherwise I loved it.

And it got rid of spew. :)

The best thing about Order of the Phoenix was Luna (genius casting! and she's such a skilled actress too) and the transitions beween scenes via the daily prophet. I was extremely disappointed in the look and particularly the art direction of the film, especially the department of mysteries, and I thought the director didn't give a damn about the characters and was mostly concerned about running time. I'm a little stunned Yates came back because the directorial impression he left on me from watching the movie was that he had zero respect for the material and thought the whole thing was a big damn silly mess. And despite OOtP being the shortest it dragged like it was the longest, of all five movies it had the least spirit of the books. But it did have Luna and that was excellent. I really thought he completely butchered umbridge's torture scenes and squandered most of the dramatic oppurtunities of the story.

I still can't stand the first two movies. They're just way too cheesy for me.

This is one of my favorite books, so i'll probably have really high expectations for the movie.

I do like the trailer though.

Yeah, I know. It's not like something delayed the completion of the film. They're just going to keep it on the shelf for 8 months. I'd laugh so hard if it somehow leaked onto the net months in advance.

it's so damn stupid. the worst performing film of the series (azkaban) was a summer release. and they think because ootp did well in the summer hbp will as well. did they forget that there was a perfect storm of fan enthusiasm due to the release of the seventh book? otherwise the fifth film wouldn't have done nearly as well as it did. This one would probably have outgrossed Goblet and phoenix, maybe even become the top grossing of the series with it's original release date and considering the (lack of) competition this fall, now it'll be lucky to gross more than chamber of secrets.

Yes! There's just something about the atmosphere in the winter that compliments HP movies. Maybe it's like Jason said, maybe it was something born of the LoTR releases.

I think it's just something inherently, well, "Christmas-movie-feely," if you will. I remember a couple years ago (or possibly just last year) I turned on the TV and there was a promo for a Christmas Movie Marathon, starting with two Harry Potter movies. My mom overheard and was up in arms about the Harry Potter films being classified as Christmas films, but it just seemed to fit, to me.

Plus, there's nothing like a nice novel to curl up with next to the fire, and these are book movies.

Also: Blaaaaaaagh, my brother and I were going to see this and the new Bond movie this fall! Now what will we do? Now what will we do?

the prince caspian people are really kicking themselves for going with a summer release date now. they could have had the winter all to themselves and probably doubled their domestic gross, considering the lack of family competition (despereaux looks terrible and coraline has been bumped to february, bolt seems promising)

After Prisoner of Azkaban I vowed that I would rather eat my own arms off and s*** in my mother's face than watch another Harry Potter movie. And now that Emma Watson isn't underage any more, I can't even just mute it and get my jollies off her.
