Reasons not to move to/live in NYC

Reasons not to move to/live in NYC

Postby Gravity Defier » Mon May 26, 2008 4:30 pm

It has been suggested multiple times that I consider moving to NYC and I have given it a great deal of thought. I've heard plenty of reasons why I should move there.

Below, I have compiled all the reasons I shouldn't move there and would like further assistance in making this list longer.

*Giant Stay Puft Marshmallow Man
*Pink Goo that feeds on hatred
*Clover, the Cloverfield monster
*Alien attacks on July 4th
*Dark seeker infestations
*Massive flooding/new Ice Age if global warming gets out of hand
*Giant gorilla that likes to climb, abduct women
Se paciente y duro; algún día este dolor te será útil.

*Clover, the Cloverfield monster
The monster that loves to love!

Can we also add a totally realistic and scary Godzilla? And her as yet unhatched children? Let's not forget that as a hub for marvel super-heroes, it also attracts a disproportionate amount of super-villainry. Sure they technically cancel out, but there's a lot of colatoral damage involved.

Ohhh, and a potential zombie infestation that may or may not be reasoning creatures as is constantly hinted at through the film but then there's a stupid ending taking it in the complete opposite direction from the book. So what, you say, Zombies are a risk everywhere, but New York will have lions as well apparently.

Also how low budget are we going here, because there is that artificial volcano unleashed by Science Gone Wrong in that warehouse that only the hero and his estranged ex-girlfriend can fix. And that's just the tip of the low budget threats to New York.

according to "Annie Hall" you can't make a right on red in NYC that's almost as bad as the periodic giant monster attacks.

Um... no.

Bone-crunching monsters and brain-gobbling zombies are one thing... but my city most certainly does NOT stink, thank you very much.

They just raised the subway fare. Sort of. In a roundabout way.

The base subway fare is $2, but if you buy several rides in advance, you get a bonus.

The bonus used to be 20% when buying $10 or more in rides ($10 would get you $12 in rides.) They recently reduced the bonus to 15% ($10 now gets you $11.50 in rides.)

The base fare is still $2. It's a roundabout way of increasing the subway fare. The base fare is the same, but we're getting less rides for the money anyways, because the only people who don't take advantage of the bonus are tourists and idiots.

Having said that, one thing I just found out (since I just started driving in NYC...) After 7pm and on weekends, NYC is a parking paradise. So if you want to drive here, just do it after 7pm.

Probably because the only people who drive are white collar commuters who live in the suburbs beyond the reaches of the mass transit system.

Or are too snotty to take it. There's very little feasible commuting that lies outside of the reaches of the MTA, do you know how much ground it covers? Huuuuge.

There's something irksome about people complaining about a decresing bonus when they're only paying $2 a ride for one of the most advanced subway systems in the world, but for the life of me I can't quite put my finger on why.

I'm not pissed about that! I'm pissed that the monthly pass is now $81 when it used to be $76! Jack up the prices on the single rides and weekly passes! Make the tourists eat that money! Not the people who live here and need to use the subway every day! Grrr
you snooze, you lose
well I have snozzed and lost
I'm pushing through
I'll disregard the cost
I hear the bells
so fascinating and
I'll slug it out
I'm sick of waiting
and I can
hear the bells are
ringing joyful and triumphant

Bah, you make me sick with your cheap and easy public transport system. Why don't you give some of that speedy trasportation to people who have to walk six kilometers for clean water, eh? eh? Yea.

Yeah, tourists suck! :P

Actually that's exactly what they've done in London, putting up fares on singles unless you're using the oyster card system. Annoyingly some tourists figure out to get them whilst I still haven't got round to it.

If they'd bumped it up to $2.25, I wouldn't have a problem, but as it is now, you have to do a complicated log to figure out how much money to put on so you don't always have money left over. It's annoying.
