Wow, people claiming that things from their childhoods were better than the same stuff from today.

I'm pretty sure this phenomenon is unique to this generation. Kudos to you guys for being so unique.

Zelda as an arcade game

My dentist used to have an arcade version of Zelda...all the games were free in his waiting room, and I used to LOVE to go to the dentist. As a kid, it was one of my favorite things to do, which sounds really weird looking back. I don't think that it was actually part of the Legend of Zelda series...it's a vague memory from when I was 5-7ish. I just remember being Link, and moving him via joystick through the woods and fighting. It's the reason I watched the animated series though

We didn't have an Atari in the 80s, we had a TI-99/4A. Now THAT is an obscure console. The games I remember playing on it: A-Maze-ing, Alpiner, Moon Patrol, Jungle Hunt and the never-heard-of Millikan's Equations (an early algebra game!). My brother would write programs for the TI and save them on cassette tapes...crazy.

Who remembers blowing in NES games and doing other weird things to get them to work?

My grandpa bought me the 3DO. It's really the only "obscure" console I had, but I still have it, and it still works. I thought it was the coolest thing ever, because no one had one.

I had the Sega Master System. It went obsolete in about 30 seconds.

I still have a Sega Game Gear tucked away somewhere. The thing is roughly the size of a brick and requires 6 AA batteries which last for all of 4-5 hours. Or you could use a rechargeable battery pack which itself is considerably larger than any modern cell phone. My, how technology advanced since the early 90s. I also have a friend who was one of the 6 people who bought a Virtual Boy.

Our family had (and still has... somewhere) an Atari 2600, and I still played it sometime in the 90s, I think. That thing was great; decathalon, combat, keystone capers, and that game whose name I forget that had you jumping across alligators by jumping on their heads.
