Pwebbing while working...

Postby Jayelle » Tue Oct 03, 2006 2:51 pm

I tend to check pweb while I'm working, and I'd love it if people would add "safe for work" next to links. Anyone in the same boat?

I am but a simple fuzzy-headed student, but I don't recall ever checking Pweb whilst at work when I had a job. I always felt too nervous when I was getting paid by the hour, and having to itemize what I did for all of those hours... And it's hard enough to remember what I did when I don't have to make up something for 4 hours of Pweb.

Edit: Oh, and NSFW warnings are just useful in general (and just polite in a way, I think). I use them whenever I remember.

Another edit: wait, are you asking for people to put "SFW" or something similar next to all links that are deemed safe? I suppose that makes more sense than the normal way, but it would be quite a change...

I don't check forums or post to them at work as a general rule. For one thing, I am usually too busy. For another, my employers doesn't look kindly on that type of activity. (I could probably get away with it if I am not busy, but I generally don't try, as I think it's none of my employer's business what type of websites I visit on my own time.)

Since I hope the majority of links coming from PWEB would indeed be safe for work (we do NOT allow linking to anything even resembling pornography, for starters), I would think think simply marking those that may perhaps be considered by some objectional would be wise, and more prudent than marking everything.

I'm not really at computers during my job, since I'm a lab TA and I'm in the chem lab the whole time. During office hours I have a computer but I'm generally too busy to do anything on it.

In high school when I had a research lab job, I checked pweb all the time because there were a lot of timepoints I had to wait for. My boss wasn't in the lab very often (he was either in the hospital or downstairs in the offices) so it didn't matter too much. I got all my work done and did other tasks in my spare time, but eventually I ran out of things to do.

I have been on PWEB at work, as well as during class. Nowadays I do it primarily during class.

See, some of my classes are so painfully and horrifically boring that i need to be on PWEB. This is why I implore you people to keep the forum active!!!

I'm pretty sure John doesn't pay attention in any of his classes, because he's always on pweb or chatting on AIM. :P

Er, oops? Some of the webcomics I linked in the webcomics thread do contain nudity (although they are marked), and at least one rather gratuitously. And a couple of them are created by someone who creates and sells pornography for a living (which can be found on the same site I linked to, probably within a couple of clicks). Was any of that a no-no?

No, not nearly as good as Nerds. These are hard, larger than nerds - about the size of an M&M- and fruit flavored(watermelon, cherry, strawberry, orange, banana and blue raspberry).

They taste like medicine to me, but they were free and have sugar...a winning combination.
*squeals* Ooooh, I love Runts! I especially love the banana ones. Which is funny, because I hate bananas. :?

But I love them. So much. Now I'm craving them...

I couldn't go on during work if I wanted to. I work door to door working on a local political campaign to save the ass of a huge utility company from losing my county to the nearby municipal. I'm never near a computer at work. I did, however, used to slip into the computer lab when i was a groundskeeper at a community college and on my lunch break and check it there.

Oh, and on the actual subject--

I don't check PWeb during work. I don't have a job. And I don't ever check PWeb during class, because, in the high schools I've gone to, I don't really have net access. I also feel like it's disrespectful to the teacher (I'm old-fashioned that way), and it seems stupid to do that when I'm taking classes that I chose to take.

If "during lectures" counts as work, then yes.

I would if I could but I don't have a computer at work. Plus I'm usually pretty busy with other stuff, like work.

well heck, i'm at work right now. i even managed to get some work done this morning! course, i always do my work when i get it. it's just that they don't give me work.

it's kind of kool. cuz i get paid to do nothing... surf the web or read books. nap. my boss comes around and sees me reading my book... she knows i have nothing to do, but that's kool with her.

why? because they make money just because i'm here.

my coworker tried to get me fired stating "we have nothing for him to do, why keep him on" my boss's reply was "he stays, we get money off of him being here."

of course since then, my coworker has been keeping all the work for herself so SHE has something to do... which leaves me with nothing. that's kool. i got to re-read the " a song of ice and fire" saga by george rr martin.

ok it's my 9am break time. i'm gonna go relax in some fresh air lol

I used to have time (in a former life) to surf around the internet during work... now I barely do (I just changed jobs). Maybe sometime later, but I probably won't check anything but email - I'm out of the habit of it. And if you do everything at work it's boring when you come home.

It would be pretty impossible to be on pweb while i'm at work, but I do pweb almost everyday before work. On rare occations after too.

See, I never PWeb before work or school. I never even turn on my computer, because then I lose track of time and end up being late. I have so much respect for people who can just shut it off when they need to.

I vote you make the after work logins in more frequent, Fred. I haven't talked to you in forever and a day and I don't consider this a good thing.
It's hard with my limited internet access. I'm on more earlier in the day because I can hang out at the library like the cool kid I am.

But ya know, I still have my phone. *hint hint*

I tend to come on here at school quite a lot, so in a way its just like coming on at work, because i should be working. in fact, i first joined the last pweb at school almost three years ago.

I'm at work right now; but realistically I don't get this luxury very often. 9 times out of 10, I'm on-site at some automotive manufacturing plant making other people do grunt work for me (It's good to be a supervisor ;-))...

But, right now, I do have that luxury, so here I am ;-)
