There are so many parallels between Who and Buffy. The low production values, the character developments, the one-lining and such. Heck, Giles even makes an appearance!

TCM is showing Daleks' Invasion Earth: 2150 Wednesday morning (Dec. 28) at 1:15 A.M.

This year's Christmas special had a little too much cheese for my taste.

However, I watched it with my parents, and my mom loved it. Enough that she asked, "Are there more of these?" when it was over. I think I'll start her off slow with last year's Christmas special.

Just finished the very first two David Tennant episodes last night. My wife, who was about to jump ship, agrees with me that those two were far more entertaining than the entire Series 1 combined. She's now willing to watch more with me. Yay!

David Tennant can win anyone over.

I've started watching Season 1. Meaning the First Doctor.

Old TV is hilarious because it's obvious that the writers treat it like "a radio show where you can see stuff." First Doctor is kind of a childish jerk, but hey! I have now seen the first Dalek episode.

Looking forward to it getting better, though.

I agree. I was really looking forward to it, and in the end I was like "huh. I guess that was that." I hope next season is better.

This evening, our almost-two-year-old was watching some Series 3 Who with us. An episode ends. Daughter turns to me, recognizing, with the credits, the end of a show.

"..More Doctor, Daddy? More Doctor?"

Showing that not even 2 year olds are exempt from the irresistable pull of David Tennant.

Also, as I'm in the beginning of Series 3 of Who, the question is: Should I be watching Torchwood? Is there a consensus around here?

Should? No. There's very little connection between the two series. Watch it if you want though, I liked the first season, but not much beyond that.

Finished Series 3. Absolutely Epic in every meaning of the word. And reinforces how noble, heroic, wonderful, and...depressing the character of the Doctor is. Constantly saving billions, but constantly losing the companionship (and lives) of those he personally cares about. His reaction to the (spiteful) death of the Master was heartbreaking.

Also: Holy crap, the music is good.

Yeah. Yeah it really is.

LOVE the cue 'Doomsday'. It's absolutely haunting, and completely evokes the heartwrenching emotion at the end of Series 2.

So, massive spoilers for those who haven't finished Seasons 1 and 2. If you haven't seen it, listen, but don't watch. Otherwise, very good nostalgia.

That tracks has extra haunting for me. For whatever reason, I found it extremely cathartic when my mom was so sick, and I played it a LOT, especially in the car, and often driving back and forth to the hospital. So now when I hear it, I think of that time in my life which was very scary and sad.

What episodes have you enjoyed the most so far? What haven't you liked?

Season 1's pacing seemed off to me. I liked the Doctor, and I loved Rose. But some of the episodes just seemed...boring. Specifically, the first of the two-part episode where Jack Harkness first arrives (with the Gas Mask Kids), didn't pull me in. Part 2 did a lot better, though.

I was pretty much fully on board from the finale of Season 1 all through where I am right now, beginning Series 4. Beginning especially with the Christmas Invasion, it seems the writing, pacing, music, performances, and everything just seemed to get supercharged. Consistently out of the park.

I wish I didn't already know that there was another Doctor after David Tennant, because I truly dread losing him. His performance has surpassed all the expectations I already had, which is a pretty big deal. Because he was hyped beyond compare.

You can feel the love, compassion, sorrow, fear, and anger and lonliness he feels when he emotes it. You understand why everyone is falling in love with him.

My wife even pointed it out, especially why women over the world fawned over David Tennant's The Doctor: "He truly and convincingly treats every one like every woman hopes to be treated."

Having finished Series 3, I loved the Martha Jones season, and thought the end of Series 3 was beautiful, and powerful. I partially hoped the episode wouldn't end with a reset like it did, and pondered seeing a world so massively changed, a world where Earth was massively and unstopably ravished, where they do know of and rally around the Doctor, and see how that works and is dealt with and overcome moving forward. I know it would cause all sorts of practical story problems going forward, but it was a glimpse something fascinating.

The humor is consistently laugh-out-loud funny, in such a clever, understated way.

The Shakespeare Code was a stand-out favorite. I also loved the episode with Rose consistently trying to get Queen Victoria to say, "I am not amused." Seeing that London now evacuates every Christmas in the third Christmas special was also fantastic.

I try to resist loving any of the characters/actors, because I know I will be getting them ripped away from me in the inevitable future. But they're just too good/fun not to love. Ah well.

If you think he emotes now, just wait till he leaves. He has gut-wrenchingly good chemistry with a particular actor (I don't want to spoil anything, but you will just know it when you watch it), and it will break your heart. If you're enjoying Tennant, I whole-heartedly recommend trying to find his Hamlet. It's wonderful.

I also enjoy the "Tooth and Claw" episode with Queen Victoria, and the music there. It's almost a cliché, but "Blink", with the stone angels, is still one of the best episodes of TV I have seen. I enjoy the absurdity of the Satan Pit episodes, and I also really enjoy Ten's third season, with Donna. So glad you're enjoying these!

My wife couldn't turn the light off the night we watched Blink. She swore it was because of something else scary she had read, but...

We found the concept of "Zapping you into the past until you live to death" hilarious. That was a great episode.

I loved when I got to that point. And yeah, I hated that I knew that Tennant would eventually be leaving. It made his whole time bittersweet.

Every actor on every show will eventually be leaving.

Just finished Turn Left, going into the multi-part finale of Season 4.

Just have to say, the BAD WOLF finale of that episode was EPIC. I absolutely love the 'Action theme' (or, "All The Strange Strange Creatures" as it's called on the album).

I've gone from not being able to stand Donna in the Runaway Bride, to finding her charming, and a perfect foil for the Doctor.

Very excited to fly through what's coming, and more than a little wistful for all the change I know is coming in the not too distant future for me...

Although my wife did point out how while sad and depressing for the Doctor, it was wonderful and fitting end of that arc for Donna, now starting where she was when the doctor found her, except now people know she is great, and will treat her as such, perhaps allowing that potential to rise to the surface again.

Also, we thought the Rose-doctor ending was the best possible (and most fulfilling) way that particular story could have ended.

Basically, when Season 4 ended, my wife and I had a great discussion about the characters, their development, and the rollercoaster of emotions the writers pulled us through. We concluded that there were indeed some masterful and incredibly insightful storytellers at play in this show.

Loved everyone driving the TARDIS together, and Jackie trying to take a position. "Jackie...no. Just, no. No."

We're still terribly saddened that we're going to lose David Tennant very soon... ;(

Watched Planet of the Dead, and Waters of Mars.

Woah. The Doctor just had a total breakdown. It seemed almost like a crisis of faith, so to say. Rebelling against his long-held principles, and questioning the validity and authority behind them. And I totally understand his logical progression: Why does it have to be this way? Who says it has to be this way? Does it have to be this way? Is it this way?

The Doctor rebelling against the Laws of Time was like a longtime believer in a system of religion railing against his long-held understanding of God. Wondering if you've been deceived. Wondering if you've been a pawn. Wondering if you've constantly been held back from doing something truly Good because you thought you were standing up for something higher - and now that higher may have ended up being completely off base.

It was heartbreaking. And with all The Doctor had been through, and how Good he really truly deeply is, I totally believed it.

I was weeping like a baby for the whole coda sequence of the End of Time. Seriously. Well, I was inwardly bubbling until Rose. Then I lost it. Water everywhere. My wife made me turn in my Man Card. My only consolation was that she was weepy, too.

The Doctor's "I don't want to go," broke my heart.

..and then we watched The Eleventh Hour, and immediately loved the New Doctor as he yelled at his food.
