That's kinda awesome! Took me forever to find me though... I had to keep pulling at people who were connected to me, it was fun to swirl everyone around : )

It's cool, but not very useful, yet. Also, it apparently doesn't get along with IE.

It's wound a little tight but other than that, I like it.

(You're going to need to update me in about, oh, 6 days.)

You're going to need to update me
On that note, I've added some profile fields in the hope of using them to automagically update the Web of Pweb.

No guarantee I'll be able to get them to work, but you should all go fill them out so that I have data to play with.

ETA: None of the fields will display publicly on your profile or anywhere else on the site.

I can't decide if it's more fun to pull Alea's dot around or Nomi's.

It doesn't display any names or anything for me? I'm a dysfunctional? (also, can anyone explain to me why that word is spelled with a y--or at least why firefox thinks it should be that way?)

The names are currently hover text.

Also: Now with obnoxious, possibly inaccurate color coding.

Green = mail, blue = phone, orange = meet up? If so, just glancing at random connections, it looks accurate to me.

Most of the people I met were at EnderCon - Taalcon (Dave), Ollie, Locke, IdemosthenesI (where IS he?), Ethan (ditto), Steve S., Amka, Ela (and her kids), Papa Moose, Leto...
I've been much met the same people as Luet.
Looking at Windswept's moving dots made me realize that my list is incomplete. And Luet's, cause I am assuming she met all the Endercon people I met.

So Noah should be on the list, as well as Zevlag, who was there with his whole family.

Then there are some people who have been here in the past, but aren't on the current member list, and I can't remember what their Pweb names were. But they are T_Smith and Ophelia on Hatrack and I'm pretty sure they posted here at some point. And there's probably some others.

Actually, there's probably some overlap between our list here on Pweb and this list. :P

I present the Pweb Rubber Band Ball. Equally inaccurate, even harder to look at. (This one just has meet up connections.)

Enough of that, back to trying to make this work.

Well, fill out the profile fields I added so it is accurate when I hook it up.

The rubber band ball hurts my head. But the addition of avatars makes the other one much more navigable. I approve.

Maybe I'm just really slow, but it's hard for me to get any useful information out of it. I can pull a dot, but it doesn't tell me who it's connected to and when I let go, I can't keep track of where all the dots went to try and check. Am I missing something? (It may just be because my brain doesn't work after 3 kids.)

No, you're correct, it's really hard to grasp individual connections. That's why I started playing with what turned into the rubber band ball. It is easier when the nodes you're pulling are connected to other avatars, as you can see them move, rather than trying to keep track after letting go.

I finally started playing with plugging the forum database into the hard-to-read chart thing. I was surprised to see my former University's logo pop up as someone's avatar.

So...addressing the issue of inaccuracy (more accurately called "incompleteness," I think...I don't think the existing connections are wrong, I think some are simply missing), is there a way to connect people who aren't around to say who all they've interacted with?

Ela mentioned Noah (MusicarusRising) and T_Smith/Nathan (Reticent), for instance, and I don't see them coming back anytime soon.

Admins can edit the contents of the custom profile fields I added for any member. I'd rather stay out of any potential arguments about altering absent members' profile fields... But yes, it is possible.

Just to be clear, it may have already become apparent, but the script I built currently skips over anyone without an avatar, whether or not they've been linked into the web. It's also not smart enough to find dead avatar links and skip them.

I tried adding everyone, but it became even more impossible to find the web.
