Eh, if anyone stops and asks, you can say "look, we're having a lot of trouble deciding" or something. They're probably familiar enough with husband/wife disagreements that they won't even notice, though.

One of the things that I've been keeping busy with:

Image Image Image

As I mentioned in a DY 2 weeks ago, I saw the rose on a t-shirt in the graphic novel "Fables vol. 2" and was inspired. I didn't want to just draw it so I decided to try beading it. It's not going as poorly as expected but it is tricky; I'm unsure of how the glue I'm using will hold up over time.

Left is the red Sharpie outline (I did the first part in pencil and went over it with the marker), middle is the progress I've made so far (it takes forever and a day to do anything with glass beads), and the right is a close up of the stem.

I'll be excited to finish it and since the person I thought of when I saw it in the first place either didn't know I was talking to them or didn't want it, it looks like I will get to enjoy it long-term when I'm done.

Meh. My take is "whatever." I took a gazillion samples when I was trying to figure out my wedding colors. I had on a sweater with big pockets. I think we were shopping, anyways, which would have alleviated guilt, had there been any. Just take them. Especially if you're buying something else to alleviate guilt -- no need for more than one shopping trip. No one noticed or appeared to care. I'd worry more that they'd notice/care if I kept showing up and taking them.

Of course, this is coming from someone who used to fake putting a quarter in the "three for 25 cents" candy bins and then take the candy and who has also stolen multiple salt/pepper shakers and other various small bowls from restaurants all over Grand Forks, ND -- so take it with a grain of salt. Those days are well behind me, mind you, nevertheless, I had no problem with paint-chip sample taking.

Or, heck, PM me your address and I'll mail you my collection.

ETA: I LOVE THE BEADS. Oops. I was responding to the paint chips thing, and then I looked at my post and realized having "Meh, whatever" show up right after you posted a craft might be a bit disheartening. Meant to add that. I want to do bead stuff, myself. I'm into embroidery, lately, similar principle -- bunch of tiny, little steps to create a big, great picture.

*gasp* So you're the infamous Grand Forks bowl thief!

Also, it's kind of hard to take anything you say with a grain of salt, given that you've stolen all the salt shakers.

In my -- not defense, actually, but possibly to mitigate judgment, I only stole them for other people. I don't actually have posession of anything I stole from a restaurant. And I only did it when the service was crappy or the order was screwed up or my friend really, really needed cheering up. Like I stole the cool salt/pepper shakers after his father was diagnosed with cancer. He was really grateful. His mother also thought it was cool of me.

:D

I actually laughed at that, really hard. But I haven't stolen ALL the salt shakers, just cool salt shakers. There are plenty of plain/ugly ones left.

I'm going to be attempting to teach four people to crochet today - two adults and two children, all friends of mine. I'm nervous because I've never tried to teach anyone before I might be bad at it.

more than anything, teaching someone is all about communication. if you can convey a concept properly then you will be a good teacher.

you'll do fine. :)

That picture is gorgeous! I love moss and mushrooms.

As far as the crochet lesson, not so well. It turns out that the two little girls (9yo twins) are both left handed which I didn't know ahead of time. Left handed crocheting is *totally* different and I couldn't even teach them how to begin. But that's okay, they were bored and wandered away pretty quickly. Their mom got really frustrated and stopped after about five minutes. Unfortunately, the yarn that she had bought to use was very difficult to work with. But the other woman kept trying and she caught on and kept working on it all evening. What she ended up with wasn't pretty but she had the hang of it and wants to keep it up. She found it therapeutic. So, one out of four. :)

Well hurrah that at least one of them caught on!

And that picture really is quite lovely!

Kinley's birthday party invite! I'm pretty proud of this, since I'm not a scrapbooker, digital or otherwise. :)

working on some amigurumi critters this weekend, a lizard and a penguin for some friends and a couple of toy bones for my dog. for some reason he just loves crocheted toys.

Agh, if I didn't already pack my clay away I might have done some work on my dollmaking.

Oooh! Another crocheter! Which amigurumi lizard pattern did you use? I made up a pattern for a bearded dragon because I couldn't find one anywhere.

Edited to add that here is my earlier post with a pic of the bearded dragon amigurumi that I made (modeled after my Pheeny, of course) and a family of dinosaurs. :)

I can't wait until i'm comfortable enough with crocheting to make something other then a scarf or a headband... Although, the other night I got an urge to make my first headband and it turned out pretty well!

Well, there was this little book I found at Michaels that was a Vanna's Choice thingy that had about 12 or so patterns for $5, and it had an alligator, but the alligator really just looks like a lizard to me.

I used this stuff, plus a print out of images I scanned from 1001 Nights of Snowfall (a Fables comic) that Wil edited the speech bubbles off of

to make this:

I am considering adding a black border around Bigby, that ever adorable grouchy wolf in the center, so he's not so...white boxed, and a lavender/lilac border around the edge, just inside the frame. We'll see.

Wow! Very stylish.

Right now, I'm procrastinating. I have a 21st birthday 30cmx30cm double scrapbook page that I have to put together. One page about me, one page about the birthday girl.

Making some new toys for my puppies, so they have plenty of things to play with now that some of their older, rattier toys are gone.

http://www.planetjune.com/tinywhale

I have teeny tiny puppies, so these are just the right size for their tiny mouths. Also planning on making some amigurumi bones to, since my older pup loves his to pieces (literally). I might make a few with different yarn, just to see what kind they like the feel of best.

Thanks and just to clarify that was crocheted. All I do is crochet. I did learn to knit once but I didn't like it as much.

But the best crochet I've ever seen. Seriously. I always thought crochet was way less versatile then knit, but you've changed my mind!

Not a craft, per se...

I think I have a hand fetish; I did two hand drawings for Brat, in 2009, now this one. The one linked below is from today and the scale on the fingers is off, the cupping of the hand isn't terribly easy to recognize (which is why the fingers look off-scaled; they're probably fine if I correct for angle issues), I need to work on light vs dark for lines based on their prominence, fingernails aren't well enough defined...basically, I see where improvement is needed, nothing new there.

However, I am proud of this one because that is my left paw. The two I did in 2009 were drawings of drawings. This one isn't twice removed.

It is harder than I expected, by the way, to draw with one hand while trying to keep the other still. Even more so when erasures need to be done.
