I'm having a bit of déjà vu. Have you posted this project before?
Yes, probably the two other times I've touched it. :P

Thanks, guys. With any luck, that sucker will be done by the end of the month, or February latest. I want to put it up finally.

Jota, I'm wondering if you looked at something about beading with thread. I'm working with glue, so I'm not sure it's quite the same level of difficulty.

Got in another 2.5 hours of gluing this evening. I can't tell I did anything but I'm looking forward to not being able to tell and not being able to tell until one day, I'm done.

To help break up the monotony of sitting hunched over a canvas with tweezers in hand, I hunched over my computer with tablet pen in hand. I started the rough sketch of my latest drawing:

Image

I'm a bit backwards (and okay with that); real artists do initial sketches in blue typically but I do it in black. I do use blue but as my version of inking, which real artists tend to do in black. So my next layer will be in blue and I'll be firming up the lines and hopefully doing them much cleaner than they are currently.

After clean-up is done, I can start coloring. I'm thinking I'll do a solid color for this. Trying to do it in multiple colors, while it would be good practice, would also be above my current skill level.

Anywho. Hopefully that looks like what it is supposed to be.

Did you see one of those somewhere and decide to make your own or did you think that up independently?

I looked at some ideas online, but I came up with it on my own - especially the Applejack part.

I came to a real standstill, both with my beading and my coloring of the peacock I drew.

Instead of having a completed peacock, I figured I'd show it in the process of being colored. The dark blue is obviously the end product, the lighter blue is part of step 2 (cleaning up the ugly sketch lines of step 1). When it's all done, you won't see the second layer (light blue) at all since it will be colored in enough that I can turn that layer off.

Today was a very quiet day at work. So, of course, my mind started musing about nerdy crafts. Now I am overcome with an obsessive desire to make either a Legend of Zelda or a Super Mario quilt. King-sized probably, with lots and lots of itty bitty squares. Thankfully I am four months away from my sewing machine, so I have plenty of time to brainstorm ideas and plan this thing out. Because who needs classy boring bedding when you can classic gaming bedding?

That will be awesome!

I'm not brave enough to quilt anything but squares...

I really like that design! :) I hope you finish it. Are your outlines done with paths or just with a paintbrush tool?

Thanks. :) Does SAI have paths or its equivalent? I do most of my drawing in there (with the pen tool) and coloring is done in either GIMP or photoshop. Unless I get lazy, then coloring is also done in SAI.

But yeah...haven't done anything truly crafty in about a month. Moving kind of got in the way.

From quick Googling, I think it's called either a Vector Layer or a Lineart Layer in SAI, but I'm not 100% sure.

Ah, yes, the line art layer I've worked with and found to be pretty difficult to get a hang of with curved lines. It is a godsend for straight lines, though.

Do the curved lines have the little handles on points to drag around their shape?

Can't link images from your gmail unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately)! I recommend you upload them on ImageShack or Flickr or something like that :)

One of the things that I've been keeping busy with:

This. Is. Done.

Sort of. I have to paint the canvas, since it got a bit dirty in the process of me handling it but the beads? DONE.

And one coat of paint is on. Might do another to even it out (I can see the strokes) but for now, this is good enough.

Now I feel like I need to get to work on all the partly-completed projects that I have lying around.

Like the post that started this thread a few years ago, I also made some typewriter key cufflinks. This is also the latest painting I've done. All spraypaint and sharpie,Sky is kind of my "painting name" I guess.
