The Life and Times of Syphon the Sun
I wasn't going to post this, because I'm not as involved in the community as I was a few years ago. But, Pweb has always felt like home to me and has been a part of my life through six and a half years of life-changing events. And, at the suggestion of a few members (you all know who you are; there's no sense in naming names, now), I decided that I may as well share this. Some of you may even care.
I'm getting married in May.
We even met in a very nerdfighterly way (for explanation of nerdfighters, see: Brotherhood 2.0).
You see, she moved into my old hometown four years after I moved out. Then, after graduating high school, I moved to a nearby area, around the same time she moved out. And, to make things stranger, her father was my mother's pastor. We had the chance to meet on a few occasions, but never did. For example, she was invited to my Eagle Scout ceremony and graduation party (because her father was my mother's pastor), but, given that she didn't know me, she decided not to go. I was invited to go see her high school's production of Annie, which she was starring in, but given that I didn't really know any of those people involved in the production, I decided not to go. I also had the chance to see her as the lead in two musicals at the local Theatre Guild, which was only a few blocks from my college campus. I ended up not going, even though a few of my classmates did. We had probably even casually saw each other at church services at some point.
However, that's not how we met, despite the opportunities. So, a few years ago, I signed up for NaNoWriMo at the urging of a few peers of mine at college. Writing has always been a passion of mine and I was determined to complete the NaNoWriMo challenge. Well, early in the month, I decided that our area should host a few write-ins. Larger regions had been hosting several with great success and it sounded like a good idea. But, the problem was that our area wasn't a real region with any kind of organization in it. It was considered "Illinois: Elsewhere" which, at the time, amounted to everywhere in Illinois except Peoria, Chicago, Rockford, or Carbondale. So, I started e-mailing Wrimos about write-ins and gatherings and such. Well, we couldn't really get any interest in it, so the idea kind of died. (The next year I founded the "Illinois: Springfield" region.)
Well, Elizabeth is quite the writer herself and two of her friends insisted she try it out. And, because she signed up, when I did a search for people in the area, I found her profile. And, because I wanted to organize a write-in, I contacted her. Yes, I met my fiancée on "teh intarwebz."
The conversation went a little like this:
Me: Hey!
Her: Um, hi....
Me: Don't freak out; I got your screenname from NaNoWriMo.
And thus, a friendship was born. Well, we spent the next few months getting to know each other better (I invented The Question Gameâ„¢ to get to know her better). And, eventually (after I stopped being afraid and got the courage to actually ask her), we started dating.
Fast forward to the present day. We're engaged. We're getting married in May. All is well in the kingdom.
A returned "lost soul" of Pweb informed me that men have the easiest jobs for the wedding. And, while that's somewhat true, it's not like all I have to do is show up. With the help of my dear mother -- a former-professional wedding cake designer -- I'm making our wedding cake. She retired from the business years ago, but I always wanted her to do my wedding cake. Her arthritis is too bad to give it a whirl, though. So, she's directing me. She taught me the fine points of the craft a few years ago, working on her last one, so with her to guide me, I think I can do a decent job. Besides, I perfected her icing recipe years ago. I'm also designing our reception invitations, because, let's face it: the traditional invitations are a bore. I'm not entirely sure what I'm doing for them, yet, but I have a few ideas floating around. I should really try to make some sort of decision about that, soon.
Anyway, that's my news. Engagement pictures will be coming in a few weeks. Until then, pictures of us:

Congratulations! May you have a very merry wedding.

Congrats M...Syphon! (I'd call you other way, but i dunno what your previous names were, i fail at recognising people by their style lol)
If you are so kind to do so, please let your fiancée know about her responsibility in allowing libertarians to procreate...
Unless she is a libertarian herself
Joking aside, i feel warm inside whenever i see a happy couple. So please run before i feel all huggly! (a huggly bearded nerd is a terrifiying sight indeed)

Oh, I was so caught up in death threats that I forgot to tell you all thank you.
So: thank you! I'd invite you all to the wedding, but there will be less than a dozen people at the wedding. So, if Uncle Bob and Aunt Samantha can't get an invite (okay, so, those aren't real people; but, you get the point), I can't really give a blanket invite to my intarwebz friends.

Pfft. Don't even go there, buddy. I can call you whatever I darn well please and not only will you take it, you'll take it with a smile, asking for more. For the record: if anyone but Josh calls me "Mike," I will be forced to slay them and their entire family. The end.
Se paciente y duro; algún día este dolor te será útil.

IT'S A TRAP!!!!!
no seriously, get out while you still can. you see, i'm only writing this because i freed myself from the chains while she's sleeping so she couldn't catch me. if she knew i was here telling you this the entirety of the League of Married Woman (LMW) would fall upon me and murder me. they don't like warnings to escape. THEY WANT OUR SOULS!

I managed to get ahold of a few of the pictures, despite the photographer's objections to giving me the unedited copies. And, with a bit of photoshop magic (exposure settings in particular), I give you the result:
We took two sets of pictures, one set casual and the other semi-formal. For our casual set, though, I'm wearing my NaNoWriMo t-shirt and she's wearing her Good Grammar Costs Nothing t-shirt. Given that being writers is responsible for our meeting, we felt that was fitting.
This is one from our semi-formal set at the lake behind the library.
You may be wondering why we have band-aids on our noses. Well, when I was little, I used to get in a lot of accidents. In particular, my nose would get hurt a lot, so in almost every picture between the ages of two and five, I've got a band-aid on my nose. And Love You Forever was her favorite children's book, so when we see the oversized copy, we had to pose.
Yeah, cover your eyes for that one. Sorry, but... I thought it was a good picture.
There. That's a bit more SFW.
Another outside shot.
I liked this one, because it gets a good shot of the ring and we're sitting with our hands together.
I picked the ring out myself! Without help! I was pretty proud of myself.
Because we're literature nerdfighters...
Overall, they were better than I expected. There were a few that I've seen (so far) that I like, but I still have no fondness for pictures.

Wil, supposedly it's bad luck to mention how much the ring cost you. Or, at least, that's what Mommy said. But, I can say that I actually got a pretty good deal on it. Since it's sterling silver, rather than white gold, I saved quite a bit on the setting front. But, it is a 1.5 carat diamond (with another .05 of accents). I saved a bit by going with one that had lower clarity than the ones they were pushing on me, but managed to pick one where the flaws weren't noticeable by the naked eye. Either way, I payed a pretty penny for it.
Jayelle, I'm not actually sure where the shirt came from. Her mother bought it online a few years ago. But, grammar is hot, so she wears it.
