Upcoming Movies
Yeah, yeah, we already have a movie review thread. This is for movies that haven't come out yet.
Kung Fu Panda - A lot of people seem excited about this one. I just watched the new trailer and... I still don't like Jack Black. And I've never gotten laughs out of watching people embarrass themselves (even animated people). Verdict: May see, if the reviews are rave. Otherwise, will wait for DVD.
The Forbidden Kingdom - I do, on the other hand, enjoy Jackie Chan, and may make an effort to see this one. The humour seems to be more about wit than humiliation (I could be wrong, mind), and the pairing of Chan and Jet Li does promise some amazing fight sequences. Verdict: Will probably try to see, unless I forget.

Being in Children's Reference, the movies on my radar are ones kids ones based on books:
Spiderwick Chronicles : I haven't read the books, but they're really popular and I am amazed at Freddie Highmore playing not only an american, but twins. Frick that kid is awesome.
and
Horton Hears a Who: I like the old cartoon, and I'm glad they're not trying to do it live action. All I can do is pray it's not the complete desicration of Dr. Seuss that has been done in the past (Grinch, Cat in the Hat).

I'm excited about Wall-E (it does look absolutely adorable) and Sex and the City.

Even though it may be complete b***sh**, I like Will Smith. And the concept really does seem nice.
Batman: The Dark Knight
Even more now, because of Heath Ledger's (is that how it's spelled?) premature death, but still, the Joker is my favorite Batman villian, and it looks like it's gonna be a really cool movie.

You thought the book was bad? I enjoyed it, actually. Not the most amazing thing I've ever read, but a nice brain-break. What was wrong with it?

I'm looking forward to Jumper as well. After I first saw the preview I got the book from the library and read it. I can tell that the movie will be much different than the book AND I'm worried about it having Hayden Christiansen...but still hoping it will be good.

I'm looking forward to The Dark Knight. Batman Begins really got the taste of the Schumacher Batman films out of my mouth and replaced it with something good.

In the upcoming movie, Nim's Island, the little girl has a sidekick bearded dragon (like my little baby!) named Fred. In some of the trailer's I've seen, he gets some pretty good screen time. It's probably the only reason I'll see it.

Iron Man, Dark Knight, and hesitantly Watchmen have piqued my interest.
Iron Man, becuase RDJ won't need to act to be a perfect Tony Stark. Dark Knight because Batman Begins was awesome, and what we've seen of Ledger in the trailers makes him the first Joker I've been even slightly afraid of, and Watchmen because the comics were awesome, though I don't know how well the transition to film will go. Most likely not well, to be honest.
Besides that, the Arrested Development movie and the uncut Fanboys are movies I'm sure I'm going to see.

yup, McCarthy's the Road, the novel I consider the best of the 'great american novel' genre since To Kill a Mockingbird. Viggo Mortensen stars. should be phenomenal. the guy directing it did this utterly bad ass australian Western called The Proposition and he should do a great job with the material.
Tale of Despereaux has the most amazing voice cast:
Sigourney Weaver (narrator)
Matthew Broderick
Dustin Hoffman
Kevin Kline
William H Macy
Christopher Lloyd
Robbie Coltrane
Ciarin Hinds.
Should be awesome

Holy frick, they're making a Watchmen movie?!? That is gonna be... crap, or awesome. It's so violent and with the not happy ending.Iron Man, Dark Knight, and hesitantly Watchmen have piqued my interest.
I wonder if Alan Moore is going to disown it like he has every other movie based on his comics.
What's next, Lost Girls? Heh...
One Duck to rule them all.

I think Moore has already pre-disowned Watchmen just to be a dick. That film also has a stellar cast. Jackie Earle Haley, the Creepy guy from Little Children, is playing rorsharch and that's just perfect (even if I can't spell rorshach)

*skweels!!!*Oh, and "The Giver", but I don't think it's out until '09, sadly.
And it might not be good....but it's one of my favorite books, so I'm hoping it is.
Seriously?? I love that book so much. I hate where i live, when i read it in class in 6th grade, i was like the only one who liked it. I find that this is the case whenever we read something... im the only one who likes, and understands it...
the giver was totally wasted on 6th graders

actually the Giver is attached to David Yates (the director who's hijacked the Harry Potter series) so it won't even go into production until 2011 or 2012. fwiw, I read the Giver in fourth grade, two or three times, before it won the Newberry. it's been one of my favorite books and one that holds up really well too. the audio book is fantastic. also, I want William Hurt to play the giver.

Alas, a sarcasm tag completely negates the subtlety of the art.
Speaking of Coraline, what with Stardust being such a hit, and some movie in the works based on Death from The Sandman, isn't it about time that Good Omens get on the big screen? It is tied for favorite of my Gaiman novels, especially considering Pratchett did the other half, and it is one I can definitely see as a film, unlike certain other favorite books.
Poor Yorick, Wikipedia only agrees with me, and offers no real conclusions.
Edit: I'm still shaky on italics, because that looks like too much. Underlines? Quotes? We learned them in 7th grade English, but that was oh-so-long ago.
