Cubs vs. White Sox
Watching a ball get hit out into the street is probably Top 5 baseball moments I've seen live. It might even be number two. So freaking cool.

Well now I'm curious as to what number one is because as cool as it was to see a ball knocked out of the field (and subsequently thrown back into it by the Cubs fans in the street), I didn't think it'd be all that impressive given the number of live sporting events you've been to.

*bump*
you snooze, you lose
well I have snozzed and lost
I'm pushing through
I'll disregard the cost
I hear the bells
so fascinating and
I'll slug it out
I'm sick of waiting
and I can
hear the bells are
ringing joyful and triumphant

2013 was kind of the worst year ever.

-Baby spent her first 3 days of life in the nursery under medical care because of a rare blood incompatibility.
-My cousin unexpectedly died. In my family, cousins really are best friends.
-Baby got RSV, stopped breathing, had CPR, body temp 94, spent a week in the NICU at children's hospital. On the way home from the hospital, called 911 twice: once for a bridge jumper, once for an accident in which Brian and I were first responders.
-Brian got demoted for actually keeping people safe at work.
-Had a gall bladder attack so bad that Brian thought I was literally dying and spent the night in the ER. Had my gall bladder removed a month later.
-My state burned in wildfires pretty much everywhere.
-My state flooded so badly that we still haven't recovered 4 months later. Some places will take years to rebuild. (At least the road to the kids school is finally reopened, as of last week, so no more driving around.)

There were some good things.

-My sweet baby Jocelyn was born. It seems she's suffered no damages from being without oxygen. She's funny, loves to dance and she's a redhead!!!!!
-Brian's best friend (who has a TBI) found a lovely girl (who also has a TBI) and got married. (We never thought he'd get married.)
-Tyler, Brian and my Dad went to Space Camp.
-We has 2 fun vacations: Utah (for the wedding) and Mesa Verde.
-We've had an outpouring of love and support from our friends and church community. We are so immensely blessed, we have no words to express our gratitude. (Even though being on the receiving end feels really, really weird.)
-Brian and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary. I can't imagine anyone being a better fit for me than that man. 10 years later and I'm still so in love with him and I still feel so lucky every day.
"When I look back on my ordinary, ordinary life,
I see so much magic, though I missed it at the time." - Jamie Cullum

2013 was far more difficult across the board than I had anticipated. Some high and low lights:

- Celebrated first year of marriage and six years of coupledom!
- Got pregnant and had an absolutely hellacious pregnancy, which sent me back to therapy for the first time in years.
- Celebrated one year at my current job and being back in the publishing industry.
- David's job sucked, still sucks, will always suck, and it caused us some massive massive stress this year.
- Spent most major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's) as strictly a twosome. Sad not to have gone back to Boston for our usual visit, but thrilled to have pulled off a traditional Thanksgiving dinner including my first ever whole roasted turkey.
- David graduated with his Masters degree, which was such an epic triumph for the two of us.
- We abandoned our house search and moved into a new apartment over the summer! We are so grateful for all the amenities (garage parking, in-unit washer and dryer, dishwasher, two bedrooms, balcony) but are still not feeling very at home here.
- scary car accident last April during a freak snow storm when my car hit a patch of ice and careened off the road and down a steep ditch. I was actually pregnant at the time, but fortunately didn't know it yet. It was frightening enough already without that knowledge. Luckily me, baby, and car were all more or less fine.
- David had some health scares and wound up in the ER a few times.

Other small but worth-remembering things:

- All I wanted for my birthday was a bath in a real bathtub and air conditioning, so David booked us a swanky hotel room for the weekend. Perfection.
- Our anniversary getaway to a bed and breakfast in Stillwater was similarly wonderful.
- Best pregnancy moments: when I first heard the heartbeat via doppler, when David felt the baby move for the first time.
- Getting my newly designed blog up and running, even if the pregnancy meant that updates were almost non-existent after a certain point.

All in all 2013 was a year of some pretty epic growth, but it was a HARD year. I am so ready for 2014: Year of the Baby!
