Logo Design Contest!

Hello Pwebbers,

Check out that logo up there^ . What is it? I don't know, you don't know, nobody really knows. It's like the original cover of Ender's Game.

So, we're having a contest.

Design your own logo to go up there at the top of the page. It has to say PhiloticWeb.net on it somewhere, that's about it. Go nuts.

You have until the end of January, then we'll vote as a community on the one we like the best.
Post your entries in this thread.

and... make it so.

I think that this is a really good idea.

Just one question though. Are there any size restrictions?

I think we should use this:

I knew that question would come up...

The one up there is 200x91, so I would say anywhere from 200x90 to 350x150 pixels, but I'm not really sure.

Basically just design it and if it needs to be shrunk, it will be.

Also, one is advised not to use materials to which one does not possess right of copy.

That is a picture my husband did. It is a very cool picture, seen in full. But I also asked him why he used that one because it didn't have anything to do with the site.

So, is anyone going to design a different logo?

I'll give it a go.

Is it of anything in particular?

It's kind of surreal. He calls it Stress.

So maybe it is a little applicable. Maybe he was thinking Ender is under a lot of stress.

Well, I'm not much of an artist, but after a few attempts, this is my first proposal...

Ender and Bean, of course! jk

a friend's in Texas... they are actually from wedding photos that I doctored up... look carefully and you can see that they even have bowties and cumberbuns on! (the shirts were actually blue... a little computer magic, and voila)

Er.. something I was messing around with for about an hour. I might do another, I might not. I may even mess with this more. In my personal opinion it needs more... something. Something else. Who knows what.

Hmm... best one I've seen so far (although "Better Than Hatrack" was nice). I've got to say, though, while the font fits the style very well, as a font-obsessed moron, pick one more original. I know it's not Bradley Hand, but it's similar enough that it makes me cringe. And not (to the power of 26) Papyrus.

I mean, not that you have to obsess about font like me. But that is my 2 cents!

Honestly, I like the simplicity of it, colors included. Definitely my vote if that's what we have to choose from.

@ Mich: My collection of fonts is poorly lacking. I'm simply too lazy to go through any font websites and download the ones I like... I did it once and have stuck with the same fonts for years. I went through my entire collection twice and this one still.. fits the best. The one here is "Jenkins v2.0"... if you know of another one that may fit well let me know.

Anyways, here is another 30 minutes of messing around with it. I thought perhaps a flare of sorts would look cool at the beginning "point" of the background lines, but it's hard to flare a white background. Also, to add a little something to it I decided to put what /I/ consider a trademark Pweb comment: The enemey's fly is down.

I don't now if I like it any better... but it definitely adds something more.

Do you think we could see it with just "The enemy's gate is down"? I'm definitely partial to the original, and I know I've never associated the "fly" bit with anything but Fris (Chico? I always get your sigs mixed up...).

Yeah, the fly is mine. Hands off, bugger.

And Philotic Web is two words, dammit. You appear to have capitalized the W, but put a noticeable space between the words.

As you wish (though, I miss the red contrast...).

But there's never been a space in that spot. The website is philoticweb.net

The url has no space because urls never have spaces and rarely hyphens in their place.

But the logo in that instance is an url as it is followed by .net

Don't worry about the picture. It's my daughter standing in the window. I took it, and thought, oh, my gosh, that looks like Bean on the front of that book. So, here's my attempt.

The light blue with white dots makes it look very wintery/cold. You might be able to change the color of one or the other and get some contrast...

Ooh, you could do three stripes, green-orange-green, or whatever colours Dragon Army was! (Sorry, don't have my books.)

Can't believe I didn't think of that.... *slaps head*

Anyways... more creative liberty being taken here (lol dragon). I likes it :D

Now we're getting somewhere. If the dragon is yours, that's cool, I'm still undecided on that part, but the colored lines are a great idea, EL. After browsing fonts, I guess yours has stuck with me. The only other one I could find that I really liked is called Hardwood, and the real reason I like it is because it's similar to another font that I think would be perfect, but I can't seem to locate. Not even Identifont is helping me.

I'll put something more "serious" together this weekend, assuming I have time.

My only quible with Wil's is the nearly invisible "dot." I thought it was left out at first. "Philoticweb Net? What the poop?"

Honestly, I find Wil's too... happy. But that's just me.

Random thought: could it be feasible to rotate several banners? I mean, in the case that there are several that people like. I assume phpBB doesn't have that feature builtin, because I can't recall ever seeing a phpBB board with rotation banners, but you never know...

Does the .net even need to be there? If you're here - which, unless we intend to start advertising, you'd have to be to see that - you already know it's .net.

People are stupid, and sometimes need help finding their way back to somewhere they've already been.
