I just checked out Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert Heinlein and Dune by Frank Herbert. Which one should I read first? Blasphemy ahead; keep your arms inside the vehicle at all times. I'd say it depends on whether you want the better* of the two first or last. I found Stranger in a Strange Land...

It's brilliant to me but every time I show it to people they cringe. It's one of those albums that you have to listen over and over again and be in the proper mood for it in order to truly appreciate it. I'm the only person I know who adores the album. If I wanted to recommend a Bruce Dickinson albu...

The entire Skunkworks album from Bruce Dickinson. In my opinion, it's a brilliant album, but I would never recommend it to anybody.

My sister just saw Avatar and, based upon what I've told her of the entire Speaker series (who knew she was listening to me!), came storming into our apartment this morning screeching, "OMIGOD SOMEBODY RIPPED OFF YOUR BOOK SERIES."

pick up the left shoe and a roach falls out of it and onto my face. This single phrase is, without a doubt, the nastiest thing I've ever read. I have no idea what I'd do if that happened. Part of me would want to scream, but then it would crawl into my mouth and either choke me to death, or I would...

Absolutely. They scare the hell out of me. I hope they go extinct. I was opening the door into my shower (adjacent to my bedroom), and I heard scurrying. I turn on the light and this monster-looking thing starts running around like crazy. No exaggeration, that thing must've been an inch and a half ...

Bean's view does not introduce us as much as brings a whole new angle to the story of Ender and his biggest moment in life. No. It completely retcons the entire character of Ender, making him into some helpless idiot who gets by on Bean's behind the scenes intelligence. More or less. Which is partl...

Would have liked to have seen Ender in Exile on the list though. Might have voted for it instead. I thought I was in the minority in terms of loving that book. The gold bugs were quite riveting, and the seemingly boring storyline of Ender's stay on the colony ship was peppered with great moments th...

She knew I was mad at her, but she's so resilient that I doubt she cared. She DOES allow me to call her Qing Jao, albeit she insists the pronunciation MUST be, "King How?"

As funny as she is, that did NOT make me feel better.

I would say that I'm a combination of John Paul, Petra and a pinch of Ender. I'm very much a smart *ss and sarcastic, but I'm also insecure and empathetic. Ender is more like the person I wish to be, though.

I know I keep being the only person replying to these threads in the past few hours, but I had to answer this one. I voted Ender's Game without a shadow of a doubt. My order: 1. Ender's Game 2. Speaker for the Dead 3. Shadow of the Giant 4. Ender in Exile 5. Shadow of the Hegemon 6. Xenocide 7. Ende...

I would say I got teary-eyed or depressed in pretty much every book except A War of Gifts, First Meetings and Ender's Shadow. But I'm kind of a sensitive person. I cry during a lot of my books. I sometimes cry when I think of those books. EG: - When Bean visits Ender and Ender says he's tired of the...

- When Young Peter and Young Val were, uhm, sprouted. - When Bean didn't die (I read a "spoiler" that he died when I was reading Speaker for the Dead, but that "spoiler" lied to me). - When Sister Carlotta died. Since her body was never found, I'd assumed she never REALLY died an...

Two ones for Ender:

"Broken" by Bruce Dickinson.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6B7xYrxAeUc

and

"Oblivion" by Mastodon.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6WGNd8QR-U

That last one is a bit far-fetched, but just imagine the entire Ender series while listening to that song.

I agree that OSC did not do too well in the romantic department. The marriages are merely marriages of logic. "Well, this person will makes great babies with me, so I shall marry him/her." That's how it came across to me. Ender and Novinha made no sense. They could've been developed SO WEL...

Definitely Ender. I realized recently that the books that took me the longest time to get through either had minimal or no Ender at all. The Shadow series kind of dragged while I flew through the Ender series. And I personally believe the Shadow series was better, more exciting, a page turner. The d...

I could never be annoyed by Ender. D: He's one of my all-time favourite characters of ANY books (behind only Atticus Finch and Holden Caulfield). Then again, I have friends that hate Jay Gatsby, so anything's possible. I would say Novinha (particularly in Xenocide and Children of the Mind; she had a...

I voted the third option. As someone who has a soft spot for soldiers, it would kill me to know that I had unwittingly allowed the deaths of so many soldiers who had placed all of their trust upon me. Second place would go to the Formics. As for Stilson and Bonzo, I disliked the way they treated End...
