Re: OSC Hosts Ender Fan Fiction Contest
wow. I would love to submit something for this too! I better stop looking at this forum or I'll end up using too many idea of others.... wait... that's Card's whole objection to Fan Fiction to begin with... I guess I could rest on my laurels and be happy with my part in "Ender's Epic" (poe...

Hi EL ...
It's so amazing to see everyone here (and to see that we weren't just waiting in vain)... I'm still pinching myself to be sure it's real...

Art by Nick Greenwood? OMG. If Nick is from Utah (and he seems to be at least LDS, so there is some chance), I think I know him! Incredible what a small world this is!

Re: Something's just not quite adding up....
Yup, that's exactly what my reaction was about a month ago when someone told me they were making an "Ender's Game" movie. " Yeah, right. I'll believe it when they actually start filming." And then as soon as I got online, I found out they WERE filming. In many ways I'm still in s...

Re: Those Personal Triumphs No One Else Will Ever Understand
I'm not sure if you were joking or not, TG. But by "got" I don't mean I captured or bought any birds. I mean that I got pictures of new (for me) birds, in the wild. I'm a birder, aka, bird nerd. So really, you're not the "Lizard Lady" that you purport to be, but rather a "B...

Hi Naomi
I feel like such a noob what with being a "soldier" again and with only 300 posts to my credit, but I'll be hanging out here a bit more now I'm sure... it was fun to see that at least my flying dragon has survived the hibernation

SNR = Signal to Noise Ratio. And when the SNR is 0 db (decibels), half the signal is noise and half is the audio signal you want... that would be 50%. And from what I have been able to glean, 50% is not really a problem for us to understand (although, like you said, the actual signal is still there,...

I'm going to keep digging, but this is my initial attempt at looking for an answer.
A student with normal hearing needs an SNR of only about 10 dB for good comprehension.
I got that from here.
It doesn't really answer the question, but it is a starting point.

Sorry - what I meant to say was static noise would not often get rid of 50% of the message and us still be able to understand it - more than about 40% radio interference and you give up and switch it off That may be true enough... I have no idea at what point, scientifically, it becomes incomprehen...

Not All Protestants Believe That Holy Communion Is Merely Symbolic or Representative. Lutherans, Episcopalians, (USA) Presbyterians for example. Although, I know Lutheran doctrine best so I'm going to base the next couple of paragraphs on that. Sorry... and I actually knew that! My uncle is Episcop...

Only once a month. And it only represents his body. Otherwise, it'd be canabilism. Actually, exactly what the bread is when you eat it is a matter of debate and depends on what denomination you belong to.
