Re: Reading and Re-reading: Impressions along the way
I'm open for change, but as it stands, this is the plan: Ender's Game Ender's Shadow War of Gifts (First time read) Shadow of the Hegemon Shadow Puppets Shadow of the Giant (First time read) Ender in Exile (First time read) Speaker for the Dead Xenocide Children of the Mind Shadows in Flight (First...

Re: Currently Reading / Just Read (Books/stories/whatever)
Has anyone read Ready Player One? I read a description of it yesterday and I'm dying to read it. I've read it and it's fantastic. Such an indulgent mix of 80s geek culture and future-generation MMO gaming. No muss, no fuss, no real complexity or nuance, just a fun, fun read. You'll be glad you read...

Re: ESP(Web)N
There is no way the Jets are making it into the postseason, not with the way they are playing today. And that makes me sad face.

I found PWEB because it was in one of the acknowledgements. I can't remember which specific book though.

Re: Currently Reading / Just Read (Books/stories/whatever)
I've been going through all the Ender books over the past couple weeks, in publication order. I just finished Shadow of the Giant. Gonna read AWoG then EiE. And then SiF when it's released.
After that, however, I'll go back to Game of Thrones and plow through that series.

Re: Your Favourite TV That No One's Ever Seen
I love White Collar and Royal Pains , though the latter has started to get a little too soap-opera for my taste. I love Coupling . I don't care what anyone says, the Brits make the best sitcoms. I'll always have a soft spot for Chuck , though they've started to make the jump from "tastefully ri...

I used to play Skyrim for hours on end, but then I took an arrow to the knee.
By that I mean my GPU started overheating whenever I played it.

Re: ESP(Web)N
Both NY teams are still mathematically in the hunt for playoff contention, so I'm not entirely disappointed yet. Pessimistic, but not without hope. As for my fantasy team, unless Drew Brees can get 35 fantasy points on Monday, it looks like I'm going to win the championship game! Given that I joined...

Re: Question about Ender's Game
So after reading Xenocide again, I think you were right zeroguy. The buggers were using the Fantasy Game to try to communicate with Ender, because he spent so much time examining the Second Invasion videos in the Battle School, trying to figure out how the buggers thought, that he was creating bugge...

Re: Ender and Novinha
I don't get this argument. From the second Ender got Novinha's call to go to Lusitania, it was clear they were going to marry (at least, to me.) The saga with the piggies was as much an elaborate courtship between Ender and Novinha as it was anything else. I mean, Ender left Valentine, the closest p...

Re: ESP(Web)N
Heh, my championship game opponent has also lost only two games this season. That said, my average scores have not been that far behind his, so I'm cautiously optimistic. At this point, I'm relegated to hoping one NY team makes the playoffs. Though I nurture no delusion that either team has a hope i...

Re: Books, eBooks, Kindles, Audiobooks, and that kinda stuff
The biggest advantage to eBooks for me? I can read them in bed with the lights off (on my phone), and when I inevitably doze into sleep, the phone will fall from my hand and I won't lose my place. My phone has a Super AMOLED screen and I read using white-on-black, so in the nearly pitch-black room, ...

Jets and Giants had a horrible day. Neither team showed up to play. So it goes.

Wow, this place is still here!
Hi all. Dunno if you all remember me; I spent a few months here in 2008, but then my ADD got the better of me and I moved on to other online hangouts. Odds are I will move on again. But not before Shadows In Flight releases. So yeah, just found out SiF is finally set to drop in a couple of months, s...

"Ender's Game" videogame placed on indefinite hold
You may or may not have heard that Chair Entertainment was making a videogame adaptation of Ender's Game, based on the zero-G wargames in the Battle School. Well, that game has been placed on indefinite hold , meaning that it is essentially dead, unless another studio picks it up. Chair Entertainmen...

The game is really really good, probably one of the best Xbox Live Arcade games yet. It has high production values and very solid and well-designed gameplay. Still, I'm worried for the EG game. Chair Entertainment (the developers of both Shadow Complex and Ender's Game ) have announced that the EG g...

Shadow Complex...
So I just downloaded Shadow Complex on Xbox Live. The game is set in OSC's Empire universe and is built by the dev team currently working on the Ender's Game game. I must admit to not having read Empire yet, but Shadow Complex is making a strong case that maybe I should. Is anyone else playing it?

I think people are putting Hegemon, Hive-Queen, Human, Jane onto too high a pedestal. Their so-called magic wasn't due to some amazing literary prowess on Ender's part. It was due to them simply providing an accurate, believable and new perspective on events. For example, I take the NYC subway every...

I just finished EiE, and I have mixed feelings about it. On the one hand, I enjoyed reading it. Despite all the flaws mentioned or about-to-be-mentioned (by me), OSC is still a great storyteller, and his skills continue to be evident in this novel. But this book is largely empty. When you take away ...

*Shadow of the Giant Spoilers* Bean and the children that share his condition are traveling at relativistic speeds, and they'll presumably be doing that for 3000 years. I listened to the first episode of Audible.com's METAtropolis series, In the Forests of the Night by Jay Lake, read by Michael Hogan.
Not to put too fine a point on it, but it sucked. Hard.
Thankfully it was free.

So I bought it and read it. I don't know whether it's just the nature of comics, or whether I've been spoiled for having read the book, or whether I'm just being overly critical, but the pacing of the comic was way, way too fast. I know they had to take away some things, but I think they took away t...
