I'm sure this is not the most exciting answer, but you could consider simply NOT spending the money in favor of saving it for a time when you actually need something, or at least when you discover something you really want.

When I got promoted, my splurge item was to replace my 1998 dodge Avenger with a brand new Infiniti G37s. And yes, I spend money on it. A lot. Stupid, but there it is.
