Re: Shadows in Flight
Yeah, it probably isn't but I thought I read a passage about the Hundred Worlds not actually all being settled at this point and I took off with the idea that maybe this one, being such an ideal planet, was scouted out. But that wouldn't allow for the drones to survive, let alone explain what would...

Re: Shadows in Flight
Pretty sure Milagre was an official ColMin colony, settled by Brazilians. No way is this planet Lusitania. Also, it's kind of cool to see how Lusitania started, assuming that is Lusitania and Carlotta ends up being the genetic Eve of the planet.

So I got my PS Vita a couple of days ago, and it is really good. I think Sony has truly done a good job with this one. If you're at all interested in portable gaming, you should give it an honest look. Lumines Electronic Symphony has wormed its way back into my heart, though I may also pick up Wipeo...

I completely agree with you regarding the Speaker series. I found myself enjoying it so much more than the Shadow series, and I'm more anxious to see what happens to Peter and Young Val than I am to see what happens to the Leguminotes.

Is anyone here getting a PlayStation Vita? It's out next week for First Edition Bundle purchasers, and the week after in stores.

Well, considering they would have the option to take flights in stasis, they could have spent eight years planet side between Moctezuma and Trondheim and 1992 years in flight in stasis moving as fast or as slow as they pleased. Oh right, I forgot about stasis. Now it makes sense. One more question:...

Re: Timeline
It's interesting to look at the different speeds at which the characters move through time. Ender and Valentine's flight from Eros to Shakespeare lasts 41 years objectively, two years subjectively. So, they're traveling at an average rate of 20.5 objective years/subjective year. Ender | Eros - Shak...

Quick, if somewhat pedantic question: are we sure Starways Congress "years" are based on Earth "years"? Could that be used to explain the timeline discrepancies somehow? I think this is a question that has to be nailed down before any serious discussion over firm timelines can ta...

I'm hoping Shadows Alive won't only focus on the descolador planet. There's also the matter of Peter taking over Starways Congress. And now there's this whole thing with Ender, Cincinnatus and Carlotta. I was hoping Shadows in Flight would deal with some of those issues, instead of being the ridicul...

I actually liked The Left Hand of Darkness, even though it was largely forgettable (as exemplified by the fact that I can barely remember what it was about.)I could not get into Left Hand of Darkness even though it's one of her most famous. However, I loved Lathe of Heaven.

Both games are actually fairly short. Portal 1 in particular will take maybe 3-4 hours of play time to get through.Oh yeah, sure. That sounds great, thanks.
Will probably take me all year to get through both, but probably worth it considering.

Giants/Pats epic Super Bowl rematch is on. :) I'm a Giants fan so call me biased, but would anyone really bet against the Giants beating the Pats again? I'm fine with the RetCon. I'm with OSC, in that he shouldn't feel the need to be holden to off the cuff details he wrote in 1985 that didn't effect the core of the original story. I think things like Stephen King did with issuing a revised and updated edition of his first Dark Tower novel are a per...

Yeah, for some reason I went through a period back there when I was completely confusing "Delphiki" for "Arkanian" in my head. No idea why.
Yeah, I don't like that there's another character named Ender.
(And he's Ender Delphiki, not Arkanian )

It's the same asinine refrain from all the big content companies. "We want to keep it the way it is now, because isn't it just great? I mean, look at how great it is? It's great! Therefore we should keep it. Because it's great."
*sigh*

I think that's the whole point of the Queen/Drone relationship... I mean, she eats the drones sometimes; could she do that if she had empathy for them? That would mean she had a whole lot of empathy for her sister Hive Queens and next to none for her drones.

I think she just gave up living out of a sense of extreme empathy with her sisters. So somebody tell me: what exactly killed the Hive Queen? Is it supposed to be the Descolada? Is that what OSC wants us to extrapolate?

Re: Shadows in Flight
*Sigh*... I am so disappointed with this. This book is even worse than Ender in Exile , in my view. It's a novella with lots and lots of filler inserted to make it somewhat closer to full-length. The character development of Bean's children was good, I suppose. But the whole Ark storyline was boring...

Oh absolutely, he let her take control because he loved her and wanted her to be happy, not for his own survival. My only point is that she loved him first. And that Bean always had a submissive personality.

Shadow Puppets Initially, Bean's willingness and quick turnaround to have babies seemed far more resigned to getting Petra to stop bugging him than something he truly wanted. Very much like hormonal pubescent confusion. He still seemed incredibly emotionally and intellectually detached - which seem...

That was the official story, to keep the people in check while the plague swept the planet. And when Jane left the note explaining the DNA alteration and the effects of the virus, the note was attributed to the Gods (but they accepted the explanation anyway.) But soon after that, the idea of the God...

Re: Finished Ender's Game. What's next?
I think we're just talking past each other. Investment Counselor was written and published in 1999, before there was a Shadow Series, before Ender's Shadow was even written. It does contradict material in EG, Chapter 15. (OSC notes as much in the afterward to Ender in Exile, as seen here: GOOGLE BO...

Re: Finished Ender's Game. What's next?
Actually, I now recall that Investment Counselor is what contradicted the original Chapter 15 of Ender's Game, and OSC holds the later material to be more correct, with a re-written Chapter 15 of Ender's Game (which is more fully expanded in the Ender in Exile novel) promised and written, but appar...

Re: Finished Ender's Game. What's next?
I don't include Investment Counselor, because I understand it's been abrogated by Ender in Exile. No it hasn't. Ender In Exile is a re-write of Chapter 15 of Ender's Game . Investment Counselor deals with a couple of fairly major issues linking Shadow of the Giant with the Speaker trilogy. Specific...

On a more serious note, I think SiF and Shadows Alive will establish a relationship between the Delphikis at lightspeed and either the Godspoken of Path or the Ribeira family on Lusitania. I'm actually of the opinion that Speaker, Xeno and Children should be read separately as its own little miniseries.
