Re: Gun Control

There is almost no use to carrying a handgun EXCEPT to shoot people, and that is not acceptable in any society that wishes to count itself part of the first world. It's not acceptable to defend yourself from violence, from terrorism, from genocide? Even when the government fails to protect you? Eve...

Re: Gun Control

I agree that it is dangerous to make reactionary laws. I do not and cannot ever see myself agreeing to this absurd and insidious notion of right to carry murderous weapons in public. It is disgusting. There is almost no use to carrying a handgun EXCEPT to shoot people, and that is not acceptable in ...

I know this is short notice, but for those relevant few, we will be in London from tomorrow until Tuesday should you be there and want to have coffee or a pint or the like! Send me a PM and I'll send you my mobile number if you don't already have it.

Re: We don't need no Education (thread)

It does take guts, but yeah... It seems an empty gesture, and even if it weren't, solidarity with Quebecois students seems a strange reason to refuse one's degree. Surely there are better things to take a stand on, even with your degree.

Actually, it might still be there right now. It was dead when I got home.

It occurs to me that possibly I shouldn't have moved it onto the sidewalk in view of the very dodgy Indian restaurant next door.

I love that we had a fantastic audience for Merry Wives this evening. They laughed at all the right points (which was most of it) and were generally delightfully raucous.

I have a similar feeling over most creatures with too many legs in the house. That said, part of my hesitance at killing spiders is some deep-seated belief that every time I kill a spider, the harder time I will have justifying my life when the Queen of Spiders confronts me to account for her lost c...

Also, sanguine, choleric, phlegmatic, and melancholic are red, yellow, white, and black, respectively, not yellow, red, green, and blue!

Kelly, Ali wants you to post the line under the spoiler tag. I read the first book the other day. It told a good story and I can see why it has so many people talking. I've started the second and am making fair progress. I'm finding the books extremely difficult to read, though. The imagery and refl...

We have a 20kg bag of basmati sitting in the corner. Which I brought home across town on my bicycle. As well as jasmine rice and sushi rice. As for cooking, for basmati, which is a drier rice, we use a ratio of 1:1 rice to water. The jasmine is 1:1.3 and the sushi is 1:1.2, according to the bag. Mys...

I just finished reading it last night. I'm not sure I can accept it as canon. The reshaping of the buggers really, really, really bothers me because it basically negates the value of the books I far prefer, that being EG and the Speaker series. Spoilers: If the buggers really are all simply slaves, ...

I'm kind of severely phobic. My dad gives nearly as often as they'll let him (low iron is often an issue, though) and my sister tries to make it out, too. My other sister is debatabley more phobic of needle-like things in the arm than I am.
