I've heard a lot of speculation as to what exactly happened in the end and would love to know what you guys think actually happened. Did he reach another place and the echo he heard was music from where he came from, as is the most intuitive interpretation of what happened. Or, did he actually retur...

Pink and yellow? It looks blue and silver to me...

Mine is a rather lengthy, roundabout, thoroughly boring story. I became crazy about Dune but was waiting to see the miniseries. I tried to glean some info about it from the internet, crashlanded onto a Dune forum, joined it and started looking for other forums. I also discovered the Dancing Lawn (Na...

I would head out to Quebec. Maybe a couple of days in Montreal and then in Quebec City (what they like to call the national capital - humph). Those two cities are incredibly beautiful and just amazing to experience. Of course, there is the usual touristy stuff like the Biodome in Montreal that you c...

Casino Royale ****1/2 Finally got around to seeing this movie. A terrific start and possibly the most beautiful opening titles sequence I ever saw. A clever plot that didn't try to lose the audience with over-complexity, quite witty dialogue (the romantic exchanges did border on corny though), wond...

In response to hive_king: Which is exactly why I think OSC has an element of truth in Peter's speech. Currently, Islam is not lead by Muslims but by Islamists whose fundamentalist ideas are destroying the true meaning of Islam. We see many terrorist acts and crimes committed in the name of Islam by ...

Most dystopia fiction uses the abolishment of feelings as an effective way of controlling the society and maintaing "peace" and order. I think Brave New World degrades feelings of love to the point of being meaningless. In 1984, there is no source of passion in the dreary world. The Giver ...

OSC and Islam

It took me a while to find this again, but I think it is a powerful speech that Peter gives. No doubt, some of it (if not all) is OSC's opininion on what Islam can become. Is he painting a darker picture than Islam actually is, or does he speak truth? "Islam," said Peter, "has never l...

I'm from Canada and am in grade 12.
I play the violin and piano and have a habit of daydreaming when I should be stressed out.
I joined pweb in April/May this year (I think) but rejoined in October.

Only on English teachers. I have a personal vendetta against the ones in my school.

I thought Macbeth was okay. I thought the forest bit was a little predictable, but the witches were fun.

Mmm, the movie is good. Better than the Midsummer one (despite Christian Bale being in it). But most of my class remained relatively untouched by the romance. We claim to be more practical people and less inclined to kill ourselves for some other person.

No smells right now - just an incredible amount of smoke. What on earth could produce such a haze throughout the house when cooked?! We had to open all the windows and let the midwinter air work on the clouds near our ceiling.

So how did sexual reproduction occur with the birth mothers? But I guess this detail is slightly trivial. So far (I've read this book a w...

Ithilien, I actually rather liked the most recent Pride and Prejudice movie and I didn't expect to. But what really did it for me is that has to be one of the mos...

Pride and Prejudice (recent version) *** Ugh, I pretty much hated the movie. As a huge fan of the book and previous production, I couldn't warm up to Keira Knightley's portrayal of Elizabeth Bennet. She seemed arguementative and overly serious rather than light and witty. Matthew MacFadyen was prett...
