Re: Regional Words (again)

The only things with "true" pronunciations, in my book, are proper nouns. The rest vary a billion different ways.
Actually, upwards of seven billion ways. Oh the wonders of idiolects!

Re: Relax, Don't Worry, Have a Homebrew

Awesome, that's very helpful to know! I'll just keep an eye on it, the, from three days on. I suspect I'll bottle it before seven, but probably a few days past three, depending on how it's looking. I'm really hoping this basic recipe works out well, because it'd be fun to play with to see what other...

Re: Relax, Don't Worry, Have a Homebrew

So yesterday I popped by the brewing supply store and picked up some English ale yeast. It's all cooked up now and living in the boiler cupboard and I suppose in a few days we shall see if we have success. Noodle, I was wondering if I could get your thoughts on interpreting this part of the directio...

Re: The Race Relations/Diversity/Equality Thread

Oh I definitely agree that it's a lazy attempt. But it certainly is better than what I've seen more often, which is having breadth requirements and calling your school interdisciplinary, despite the fact that none of those breadth requirements intermingle in any capacity.

Re: The Race Relations/Diversity/Equality Thread

That really does sound like a poor attempt at interdisciplinary studies. That said, I'm impressed they actually attempted at something which could be interpreted as interdisciplinary, as opposed to what I usually see.

I used to do it in Toronto, and there's definitely groups in some of the cities not too far from here. The catch is we don't have an affordable way to get there. I think there's salsa and such here, but it's Lindy that I miss!

I'm not sure which I'd go for. I can hold my own with intellect, but I lack most of the discipline to actually make use of it. Some part of me feels that if I were actually smarter, I'd make myself be self-disciplined anyway, even though it takes work. At the same time, I'm already well ahead of mos...

Re: The Race Relations/Diversity/Equality Thread

That reminds me a bit of the Flannery O'Connor I was reading recently. The kind of language being used by her characters was utterly foreign to me and you could see how they thought they were being polite and what have you while still being horrified at their attitudes and language.

If anything it's rural areas that reek of manure. Only when you live on the outskirts of towns or in the country. And even then, most farmland doesn't smell bad (it's mostly just the pig farmers and dairy farmers that smell). And as someone who has lived near both a dairy farm and a pig farm, it wa...
