It all depends. My hero was the sheriff we had who made his short career as sheriff busting meth labs. A lot of them gave up, after walking through the revolving door three or four times, but now there's just more being imported from Mexico, and supporting the smugglers and dealers. At least we aren...

Not really vividly at all. I remember it, sort of, but it was just a good story, one of many, in my favorite SF magazine. Almost thirty years ago, and I had a lot of other things on my mind that year. I do have vivid memories of occurrences in my Real World that year.

I don't think that it's a matter of "better", just as the two-series question. They're two different people, with different talents. "Canon"? We aren't talking Scripture here, we're talking _Fiction_! Bean is brighter, Ender has more leadership ability, so what? Many people here...

What I'm hungry for right at the moment is Potatoes O'Brian, shredded potatoes pan-fried with chopped sweet pepper and onion, nicely browned, and topped with Brooks' spicy catsup.

Okay, I'm a redneck, but it's been so durn long!

Okay, I've only been here two weeks, and I've the temerity to start a new topic, though actually it's just moved, but I think it's gone beyond a simple poll, and I want to talk about this, the whole EnderUniverse schmear, and the angle it's taking has a lot to do with me personally. The shooting yesterday in Joplin Missouri was at my little sister's middle school. A school I went to when it used to be the Jr. High. Luckily, my mom and dad were off work yesterday for columbus day and they took Katie out of school so that they could visit colleges in Arkansas with my other littl...

Also, when Bean "invented Jane" in SotG, I threw the book across the room (literally), it was just too unbelievable. But that wasn't what happened! At most, Bean gave an embryo a kick upward to fetus. One of the facets of the abortion debate, for Christians who haven't yet made up their m...

Bean admits he can never be as great as Ender, he has that natural charisma, which Bean lacks. That's just it, Ender is reduced to nothing more than a charsmatic leader, essentially he's just a good actor. ES undermined Ender's intelligence, resourcefulness, tacticalness and many of his greatest fe...

I can't say that I prefer one or the other, it's apples and oranges. I think that both series are actually long novels, "serialized", and the shadow novel isn't finished yet. To me, it seems that the Speaker series, (beginning with EG, of course) is one of the best "serious" nove...

bump? Maybe at least the explanations on this could go to the FAQ? We newbies need to know it.

And I'm using "newbie" thoughtfully, since it appears that many of the "launchies" here are actually "oldbies".

I am Sibyl. Yes, that's my real first given name, put on my birth certificate in 1944. I was born and raised in independent Christian Church, drifted out into the Age of Aquarius (that's "New Age" to younger people), looking for God in all the wrong places (and maybe some of the right ones...

I did vote to "Leave it in", but I don't have anything at stake. It would depend too much on the individual teacher and his sense of humor and whatever paper guidelines might have been passed out or otherwise published, and you're the only one who knows those things.

Re: Those Personal Triumphs No One Else Will Ever Understand

I just administered a WAIS-III today. To a real live person who is depending on me to tell her her IQ. I am awesome. ...... I survived my first Rorschach administration. (and who also watched as he and his study buddy worked with a test whose name I don't remember that involved reproducing figures ...

so you're suggesting that they weren't faking the MR for a couple checks, but that he was able to function enough to drive a car? Well, it would have been more than a "couple" of checks, more like 240, and there's not enough information in the article for me to guess with any accuracy (fo...

Faked Retardation

Intelligence can be a most deceptive quality. There are times that I'm not sure that capacity to work and pay attention don't count for more. People with low intelligence can still learn, they just do it more slowly and have to work harder at it, like studying a school subject that is difficult for ...

A recent study found that brevity is often interpreted as intelligence.
"It is better to keep quiet and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt"

That isn't original, but I can't remember who said it.

Today on CNN i saw that there were student protests in Iran. For personal reasons, I have a strong interest in this... I have an old friend in Iran who I have lost touch with, but I could very easily see him involved in something like this... Anyways, any of you who has the time, if you come across...

Sounds like Treason should be on my list. I keep meaning to read the Women of Genesis series, and I'm sure I will eventually, but I can't ask for it for Christmas. I'm pretty sure my parents wouldn't approve. As a parental (and grandparental) and religious (Christian, non-LDS) and Bible-History ent...
