Advent Rising...
Has anyone played Advent Rising? That's the game Majesco did with OSC.
It was supposed to be a trilogy, but the first game bombed hard at retail, almost taking Majesco with it. I heard it wasn't actually all that bad, though, and I was wondering if it was worth eBaying...

Re: Reaction to Ender's Game
It doesn't. But don't let that stop you from reading them. The sequel, Speaker for the Dead is widely regarded to be better than Ender's Game.I'm wondering if the rest of the series revolves around video games.

Queens lost power for TWO WEEKS in the summer of 2006. Nya-nya, ooo in 2003 Manhattan lost power for three whole days , well, CRY ME A FREAKING RIVER. Have you ever got without electricity for two whole weeks? Not just your apartment, but ALL apartments, all grocery stores, all restaurants, all EVE...

There's something irksome about people complaining about a decresing bonus when they're only paying $2 a ride for one of the most advanced subway systems in the world, but for the life of me I can't quite put my finger on why. NYC Subway? Advanced? BAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA! Sorry, but no. NYC Subway may b...

They just raised the subway fare. Sort of. In a roundabout way. How do they raise the subway fare sort of in a roundabout way? The base subway fare is $2, but if you buy several rides in advance, you get a bonus. The bonus used to be 20% when buying $10 or more in rides ($10 would get you $12 in ri...

The only way to do things properly would be to have a single, unified Speaker's Guild, or something similar, and rather than having Speakers personally requested, a generic request could be submitted, etc. Oh god no; then Speaking would become a religion, and Speakers would become celebrities or so...

I still maintain that the 'net existed when EG was written, and it looked a lot more like EG had it than it does today, making these predictions less impressive. But I get the feeling people are going to get tired of me saying that really fast... Isn't that the way with many sci-fi writers? That th...

The horrible stench and the colluded traffic. Um... no. Bone-crunching monsters and brain-gobbling zombies are one thing... but my city most certainly does NOT stink, thank you very much. I'm glad I wasn't the first one to have to say that. I should have known I could count on you. As far as good r...

Bah, Investment Counselor was somewhat disappointing, though The Polish Boy and Teacher's Pest were quite good, I thought. And of course, the original Ender's Game was quite an intriguing read. Investment Counselor made Ender seem really, really dumb. I mean, after everything he's done, he can't fig...

I think there's way too much room for error for this to ever be a good idea, much as I like the idea in the book . Would it matter though? I mean, even the Speakers in the books were only giving their particular interpretation on events. Yeah Ender's interpretation was largely (and uncannily) accur...

But look at the fiasco that happened at the speaking of Novinha's husband (I always forget his name). I think secrets like that could come out at real speakings and tear apart the people attending. I know that this is an extreme example, but still. Well that was because of the sheer magnitude of th...

Real-life Speakers?
Do they exist? Has anyone met one or retained one's services? Has anyone tried to do Speakings?
Just curious. I've often thought it'd be cool to have someone do a Speaking of me...

Yeah, but it was pretty dumb of me to assume that Bean couldn't handle a similarly large force just because we don't see him do it. And I don't think anyone here would bet against him being able to do it. Graff and Mazer certainly believed he could. I haven't yet voted on the poll, but now I'm leani...

Um... am I the only person who doesn't really care for the cover art? My opinion is if a book has fanciful cover art, that means the publisher thought it couldn't sell on its own merits. All of my favorite books have nondescript cover art that only makes any kind of sense once you have actually read...

I can understand that Peter would want the people around him to believe he was solely responsible for sending Ender away, but why would he say that to Ender and Val themselves, as he did at the end of SotG when ...
