Re: Can we have a Hunger Games Movie thread?
I had read all three books before the movie, and I'm very glad I had. I'm not sure if not having read the books would have made me like the movie more or less, but I'm glad I knew all the back story and details of everything that was going. There was lots of stuff in there just for people who had re...

Re: Good movie to pair Enders Game with
First thing I thought of was Star Wars, how the two stories portray human interaction with extra-terrestrial life. I supposed you could also do this with any movie where aliens and humans encounter one another. Another way you could go is a movie like Blood Diamond or something that does show child ...

Re: MOCKINGJAY spoilers
Figure I'll chime in here. I've read the first two twice, MJ once, and its been a few months since I read any of them. I also only saw the movie once, on opening weekend so that's been a while too. I'm going to take the side of the ones who liked Mockingjay. I'll readily admit that it had its flaws ...

Re: Launchie Barracks
Probably all of the above. Enders Game/Shadow and the Shadow series take place in the not-too-distant future, so the technology gap between theirs and our own isn't that big. OSC does a great job of explaining the new technologies that make these books possible and even plausible. It also (the Shado...

Re: Another Introduction
Santa Cruz is great, I lived in Monterey for a couple years just down the coast. I'm very excited, going home to San Jose for a wedding this weekend. And I'm the best man!

Re: Launchie Barracks
The other thing I like about the Shadow series is that it can almost read like historical fiction or "what-if history" it is much less sci-fi and much more plausible. But maybe I'm just drawn to that because I'm a history major. The Ender series caters to a much different set of academic d...

Re: Launchie Barracks
I agree the Shadow series is a much faster/easier read, but I don't know if thats necessarily good or bad. Choosing between the series is pretty much impossible, I love them both. By their nature, the Shadow series is much more exciting and fast paced, but the Speaker series is so powerful and has m...

Another Introduction
Hi everyone. I've been snooping around these message boards on occassion for a few years now. Finally decided I might as well register and say hello. I'm 27, originally from California. I had never heard of Ender or OSC until a junior-year college english course when a classmate did a report on Ende...

Re: Ender's Game Quiz
Only missed one, and it was an easy one. Just a mis-click on which was his first army. I was afraid I'd miss a bunch and was questioning my own fan-dom but I was relieved to see that I probably belong here with all of you.
