voiceless velar fricative Well I'm not a linguist, but I know words enough to figure out what that means. Voiceless meaning ... voiceless. "T" is voiceless. "M" isn't. "th" in "three" is voiceless, but "th" in "there" is voiced. Fricative ...

If you want to judge an author by his fan base, look at those jerks who like Orson Scott Card. Geez.

I thought this episode was a lot of fun. I really liked the Doctor trying to be a normal bloke, and failing. Jan's saying in my ear and I agree with her so I'm going to say it as if it was me and not give her the credit (wait...) that 10 was human lots of times and seemed to do it easily. But 11 see...

Even if you're active in your church (and I'm thinking of my extremely conservative evangelical midwestern church) couples in their mid twenties will routinely live together for a year or more before getting married.
If this is true than your church is not as conservative as you think it is.

Just chiming in on the digression to say: Locke is right about Nuclear power, and Canadians should know that already. Canada's nuclear power is very safe. A Chernobyl-style disaster will never happen in Canada, because of how our reactors are designed. And that design is reproducible, and being most...

*ahem* *pulls out soapbox* *taps microphone* Many of you do not venture into the games room often, or at all. For myself, I like books. I read academic articles online, but I have never been tempted to read an entire book on an electronic device. That may be because I have never used any of the good e-book readers, I only read articles (and sometimes small sections of books, which is about all I can handle)...

What do you think about ebooks? Anyone have a Kindle or one of its imitators? What about reading ebooks on your computer? Anyone do it? What is (or should be) the purpose of studying literature?

Inspired by a rather ... heated discussion in one of my classes, here's the question: Is the point of studying literature to make people familiar with great books or is it to give them the skills to read anything well? Another way of thinking about the question is: Is the point WHAT you read, or HOW...
