On the same subject:

I also hate it when a person using an ellipsis (especially the person who is the current target of my rage) uses four or five dots instead of just three.....

I often wonder if he does it for emphasis, the way a normal person might use an exclamation point.....

There are elipses used correctly and grammatically, and those are fine. And then there are ellipses used occasionally, to indicate a sense of trailing off or a continuation, or a mental pause. I prefer these used sparingly. But... then... there... is... overload... which... makes... reading... diffi...

Dot. Dot. Dot.

Stupid. Dot. Dot. Dot.

(See my most recent Dear You for further explanation.)

I suppose whether this is irrational or not depends on how seriously you take grammar errors.

But I once counted over forty of them in half a class period of overheads with bullet points.

I do not know what kind of traumatic incident occurred to make you hate punctuation so... or perhaps it signifies an unwillingness to commit to anything... a sort of existential sense of so...

In my fantasies, I long for interesting clients. I long for stories and distortions because in my fantasies, I make them better. I work with them compassionately and wisely and competently. But when I get a real client that I would love to have in my dreams of me as wonderful therapist, I have no id...

Rahl, in this thread you remind me of an overly stuffy uncle who I want to pick on because it's just plain fun. However, I will attempt a bit more of a serious tone for the sake of not permanently pissing you off. Let me clarify. It was not meant to be malicious. None of this has been intended as ma...

Please, please, do keep playing this game with me. I'm obviously planning to start caring about your overly serious response to what was initially meant as a lighthearted jest.

There's a Cathy cartoon where her mother comes to rescue her from getting a haircut in which the punchline is, "When we're feeling most cut off from life is when we're most likely to pay someone to come at us with a pair of scissors."

God knows that's applied in my own life.

Yeah, I went through a major paper snowflake phase. I had bought a big book of scrapbook paper -- and I don't scrapbook. So I'd cut them out when I had insomnia or was watching TV. Now I have about thirty of them -- very lacy, very colorful -- as kind of wallpaper by my desk. It's very psychedelic. ...
