Re: When's it coming out?

Massive cliffhangers on the 2 main storylines. Ugh! I. Need. Awakens.

Re: The trailer

To everyone freaking out about the "OMG! SPOILER ENDING", consider this for a moment: No one who has read the book will be surprised by Ender shooting at a planet. No one who has not read the book will understand the significance of the image. It's pretty obvious that Ender is going to bea...

Re: The trailer

OK, peeps, let's break this thing down shot by shot: Battle school, we see the wheel spinning but the battle room remains stationary, an important bit of detail that means they're taking the physics here seriously. This only means that the theory of physics the way we under stand it to be is taken ...

Re: Ender's Game and the Question of Child Soldiers

I suppose the answer is that only in the most extreme case is there a justifiable reason, and even then only barely. OSC illustrates this via Graff, who is aware of how terrible the battle school program is but is fully committed to it, because he understands the consequences. Since a wartime threat...

Re: Ender's Game Publicity

These facial tattoos are a perfect example of why I'm excited for the movie. It's a little visual detail that was not explicitly stated in the book, but rather something that the film adaptation has a chance to add to the EG universe. I can't wait to see what other stylistic choices the people behin...

Re: Currently Reading / Just Read (Books/stories/whatever)

What, are you a fan of SAO? I finished the episodes and wanted more, so I dove into the light novels. Super glad I did.

Re: Ender's Game Publicity

I'm constantly struck by how different Harrison Ford's personality is from the characters he portrays.

Re: The trailer

Totally agree. I'm almost ashamed at how voraciously I consume even the slightest bit of news with regards to the movie, or even just its advertisement.

Almost.

Did you hear that they're giving Rackham facial tribal Maori tattoos? Interesting design choice, no? Thoughts?

Re: You know you've read too much EG when...

-you expect ridiculously accurate scientific realism in all other sci-fi, and are secretly disappointed any time a movie, book or series fails to take into account relativity.

- anytime you play a strategy game, you ask yourself "What would Bean and Ender do...?"

Re: So long, Ender's Game!

Anyway, if people decide not to watch EG because they have something to teach OSC, then they're not being as open-minded and accepting as they preach either... which ironically puts them in the same camp, as far as I'm concerned. You're right. I just hope that potential boycotters of the film reali...

Re: So long, Ender's Game!

I'm pretty sure they're thinking along the lines of sequels (they would follow the Shadow Saga) and are approaching EG as an Ender/Bean film.
Oh, who am I kidding. I'd kill for those sequels.

Re: Ender's Game Publicity

C^2S--The gates are ALWAYS up-down oriented. At least, they are to ME! But the presence of the EARTH as the largest reference in the "sky" is going to mess with that--but not only for the kids, but for the audience as well (mark my words). Spoken like a true jeesh member! But I can envisi...

Re: So long, Ender's Game!

I just have this gut wrenching feeling that the movie is going to do horrible in the box office. This film could catastrophically tank in the box office and I wouldn't care. I just want to see it, I don't care if anyone else does or not. Sure, doing poorly in the box office will hurt any chance for...

Re: Ender's Game Publicity

I don't think they'll do that.... I agree. Plus, from what we've seen in the poster, the gates are not "up-down" oriented, so I don't think it'll happen. Now that I've thought about it a little more, having the Earth visible would make Ender's battle room innovations even *more* groundbre...

Re: Ender's Game Publicity

Translucent battle room walls could be problematic with the sun being bright and all. Problematic, or tactical. Depending on the time of day the battle takes place, sun flare could be used to the advantage of one army or the other. Also, I see no indication that "live" flash suits have li...
