Re: "I HAVE SEEN THE MOVIE AND I MUST TALK ABOUT IT" Thread

I just got mine from Amazon and can't wait to get home to watch the deleted scenes!!!! [edit] a) the deleted scenes were pretty great (though the one with Chamrajnagar was maybe unnecessary), I'm not sure why they weren't included b) If there's really 20 minutes missing, only half of that showed up...

Interestingly, availability of substitutes is more of a problem than a blessing, only because my family is so damn accomadating and nice. Since we cannot be without tons of junk food at my family events they have searched out and found and acquired all possible gluten free substitute junk food. Hoor...

Gluten

So a few months after our wedding, Renee tried going gluten free for a month because it had helped her sister and mom. She saw improvement herself, and naturally the weightloss that comes with cutting gluten. she reexposed after that initial month and promptly had a horrible reaction with all the at...

Well Smaug and bilbo was pretty good, until Jackson decided to get the f****** hobbit out of the way so the main character/protagonist thorin could have a chit chat with Smaug.

Mostly it was meh, about as much meh as the first one. :(

Re: "I HAVE SEEN THE MOVIE AND I MUST TALK ABOUT IT" Thread

Saw it last night (yes, finally!) Here's the quick and dirty: I really enjoyed it. Loved Asa as Ender. Loved. Loved the Battle Room. Loved the score. Loved the depiction of the final 'simulation'. Only real frustration was the lack of sense of passage of time. It really was breakneck speed through ...

Re: "I HAVE SEEN THE MOVIE AND I MUST TALK ABOUT IT" Thread

I...don't even know what character/book you're talking about here. That characterization of Ender rings true for movie-Ender to me but that is not even remotely close to how I read book-Ender in any of my readings over the years. Not as a 14 year old and not as a 30 year old or anywhere in between....

Re: "I HAVE SEEN THE MOVIE AND I MUST TALK ABOUT IT" Thread

so our internet was out yesterday, but we saw it friday night. I would give it about a 7.5 to 8. The film was clearly made by people who love the book, as virtually every important scene/beat from the book was in the film, though often in a highly compressed version. This illustrates the biggest pro...

12 Years a Slave for the first time since Schindler's List a masterpiece has been made of such staggering scale that it will wind up in the top ten of 'greatest movies ever made' lists when such lists are made (at least of the populist vein of lists like AFI, who knows what art cinema snobs groupthi...

hmm, I have fewer OSC books than I thought, all of them are listed except Crystal City which OSC sent me after helping to proof it, so it's inscribed with my first and last name. I've started pricing these, anybody on pweb who is interested, PM me, add $4 for shipping. I'd like to see them go to a g...

Re: Collecting OSC Ender's Saga and Shadow Books

sure. First Meetings was initially a short run sold exclusively at Endercon in 2002. extra copies were sold at hatrack.com until it went out of stock. The subpress edition came after the first edition sold out. I think the cover art is very similar if not the same, but the boards are different and t...

There are minor spoilers in the following post: Anyone read or in the process of reading this one? I just have a few more chapters to go, and I'm finding it to be generally enjoyable, but one thing in particular jumps out at me as being odd, that is, Danny's teen harem (ie. his teen female friends)...

There was also the Endercon edition of First Meetings, which is technically the first edition. I've got signed copies of all the Shadow books (I think) that I'll be selling, and I'll be selling as well as signed copies of most of the other OSC titles. Wierdly, I never bought the original quartet in ...

So I saw the new Star Trek It's going to suck when JJAbrams disarms all the people with lightsabers so we don't have any swordfights. It's going to suck when JJAbrams disables all the spaceships so we don't have any space battles. Instead everything will be resolved by a Jedi FistFight (which we alr...

Interesting, comes off as a little cheesy, I'm guessing Graff carries the film? I love seeing all the stuff they packed into the trailer, but I wish they'd taken more of a Hunger Games approach with the marketing of less is more.

Re: How about that weather, then, eh?

I'm either incredibly slow or incredibly dense (probably both), but I never realized "Ewok in Jawa-land" was referring to an Ewok living in the desert. If you hadn't just made the winter equivalent, I probably never would have figured it out. I didn't realize that until you pointed it out...

just riffing here, wouldn't part of the wave motion be facilitated by interacting with molecules of gas though? how much of a ripple is caused by force rebounding off gas through the flag and we perceive that bounce back and forth as a ripple?

Uhhh....why is Thorin Oakenshield, the dwarf, the main character in the film version of The Hobbit, instead of Bilbo, who is, ya know, THE HOBBIT?
