I didn't think it was that bad... It wasn't an Ender's Game, but it wasn't horrible in my opinion... I did think that the dialogue was a little flat, but the idea behind the novel seemed possible and was interesting enough to keep me reading. I liked the sequel too, as I enjoyed the plot just as mu...

Re: Free Will

Not sure exactly which section this belongs in, but it relates somewhat to religion, so I figure I'll stick it here. Warning: This is basically going to be a long ramble, just throwing some thoughts out there and seeing what kind of responses I get. So, recently my friend has gotten me thinking abo...

If i am not wrong, the reason is because Jesus said it in hebrew: "Eli, Eli, lama sabaktani". (Eli is a possesive declinative form of Elohim, the word for god). Alas, in the times of the Empire, very few jews still knew hebrew (aramaic was the majoritary language, i believe), so they conf...

The end of Malachi (the last book in the NT) talks about Elijah returning before the Christ comes. Christians believe that person is John the Baptist, Jews believe he is still coming (and leave an empty chair at Passover). That's not quite true. Mormons think it literally was Elijah, who returned t...

Jimmy Carter. That man did nothing BUT fail. Repeatedly. His biggest legacy? Destroying the economy, failing to save Americans from Iran, and screwing up the oil market. There was a reason Reagan stomped him all across teh country and then walked that big ol'mud hole dry. And speaking of Reagan, he ...

Also out of curiousity, why is Clinton on it? The whole thing with monica was sleazy, but he has the right to do his job while having a job done on him. Meanwhile, government spending and the deficiet shrunk under his watch, we successfully kept the balkans from ethnic cleansing, gays got at least ...

Best is hard to say. BUT I will say I love Peter more than I love Ender. Once he grew up, Peter changed not just the Earth but the entire universe since it was he who ushered humanity into the stars as Hegemon of Earth. Sure the IF had a part of it but in the end Peter would have ended up running it...

Ender's Game doesn't really have much theological significance to me. But the other books, especially Xenocide and Children of The Mind have huge theological arguments underlying them. And in these, Card's Mormonism shines through, if in a distorted sci-fi sort of way. His explanation of philotes is...

I see some conflict: is SiF a sequel to Giant or not? In the case that it's not, my friend will be extremely devastated, as she is obsessed with Bean to the point of insanity. CotM didn't have a really resolved ending, did it? I think another book is needed to tie everything together. Somehow. *cro...

I wouldn't feel particularly guilty about any of it. Ender didn't mean to kill Stilson or Bonzo, though was trying to kill him. I especially wouldn't feel guilty about Bonzo. That was almost a case of straight kill or be killed. And everything else I simply didn't know about. Graff and Rackham reall...
