A Call to All New Yorkers:

Friday, August 8, there's going to be an event to commemorate the 1988 uprising of the Burmese democracy movement, as well as a call on Burma to move to a more democratic form of government. The event will also welcome two students (who I've had the pleasure of meeting and working with) who will hav...

I think that in the end, Bean is better on Earth because landside, things are messy. In battle school and the fleet he's able to command absolute loyalty. People follow him and his only dealing with the enemy is through combat. Bean's brilliance is in the politics that has to accompany the strategy....

We already have a Helen, she's Helenberrycrunch. So, Jezebel, if we're not calling you by your username (which I love, btw)... I dub thee... ... Nellie. I'm glad you like the name  Anyway... where'd Nellie come from? I'd rather just be called Jezebel, or Jez, or Jess even... but Nellie!? And ...

Thanks! What exactly is the difference between the books? I think I'm planning on reading Speaker For the Dead next. Is that the right one to reas? Yes it is the right one. Don't read the Bean series at all unless you have absolutely nothing else to read, Fresh Fish. The differnce is that Speaker i...

His series seem better, but EG was originally standalone (it wasn't until later that the idea for the sequels came, wasn't it?), and it reminds me of many of his other standalone novels. If he had known there would have been sequels, that last section probably wouldn't have been there. Well that's ...

I'm a big fan of Valentine. She's so sweet... like concentrated love. Both Ender and Peter are too unlikable.

So I've been noticing in the book forums that people tend to put spoilers in their posts. I've seen other forums where spoilers can be hidden until you click a button. Is that a possibility here? Because I'm tired of having to squeak around spoilers to continue a conversation.

I agree that it reads like a cartoon. Though I haven't read the next book, I think that Eriador's right about cutting it off and leaving the ending dark.

Having just finished Ender's Game, I'm kinda disappointed by the way he finds the Hive Queen. It seems to me like a cop-out. It's as if Card is saying "yeah, he did all this heavy s***, but everything's good, because even though he destroyed every single bugger everywhere, there's still one, an...

Just be aware that if your fanfics turn up online and they come to Card's attention he may take action against you. I'm pretty sure that even on these forums (in their past incarnation) his assistant has contacted the admins/mods to have fanfics removed. I don't think it's so much a matter of the i...

I agree. I think that the Right (and the Christian Right especially) represents Demosthenes, at least in the United States. Worldwide it seems a lot harder to pin down. I can't really think of anybody who plays either and appeals to a HUGE swath of humanity. I think that Locke is, like others have s...

I think that the song "In My Place" by Coldplay perfectly captures the experience of being at Battle School: coldplay in my place In my place, in my place Were lines that I couldn't change I was lost, oh, yeah And I was lost, I was lost Crossed lines I shouldn't have crossed I was lost, oh...

Okay, so I guess this where I introduce myself. I'm Helen, and I like Ender's Game. A friend of me showed me Ender's Shadow a few weeks ago, and since I finished it I've been totally hooked. I'm most of the way through Ender's Game, and I decided to look around for information on the internet, and t...
