Thanks for the edit hint. :) My opinion is that its all just labels. My perception of a religious person is someone who has spiritually identified with a group or established religious organization, and strives to live by the principles that they/it teaches. I think there are a few basic reasons tha...

Syphon, 1. Thanks for the Mormon view... I agree with that. 2. As to the evolution thread... you have been rude, condescending, and presumptuous to the extreme (imho). That coupled with the fact that with putting in 20+ hours of overtime at work, a 45 min each way commute, a three year old and two n...

All right, I have thought about the explanation starlooker gave and I can see the logic in seeing the No God scenario as more likely. May my inability to understand be excused. Boothby, if your still willing to go on, here is my response to your earlier post. I need some clarification on some of the...

MST3K It was on the a couple of different networks during the 90's, including the sci-fi channel, and an episode will pop up here and there from time to time... great show. Is it really unknown? Almost all of my friends at least watched it, and a couple of them have it on DVD. I don't know about ev...

Okay, Seaumusz, other than by throwing that statement of Steve's around, how do you respond to the oft-repeated assertion that it is not possible to prove a negative ? Many people have stated that, and you have made no serious response to it. Given that you are asking people to prove a negative (lo...

Re: You're in a desert
You’re in a desert walking along in the sand when all of the sudden you look down, and you see a tortoise, it’s crawling toward you. You reach down, you flip the tortoise over on its back. The tortoise lays on its back, its belly baking in the hot sun, beating its legs trying to turn itself ove...

Sea: I can prove God exists! Steve: Well, let's have it... Sea: Prove he doesn't! Steve: Okay, well... define your terms, first. Sea: I don't have to! That's your job, too! Steve: Okay, well, since you won't define what you claim to exist, I define the terms as A, B, and C, as that is how it is mos...

I freely admit that I haven't moved on since the beginning of this thread. I'm sorry it is redundant. I just think that it is pointless to move on when the original point of the thread won't be addressed. I was thinking that Boothby was the one copping out... I hoped that everyone saw the same thing.

Did you really design all those sets???? Wow, that is really neat. Well if you need to talk about the nature of a design for set building, I can totally see that it has to be true for a discussion about God too. From the original thread: Yeah, but I'm saying that the atheists DO have better e...

No way. There is no way you can get down to the nature of God without acknowledging His existence. As soon as you can acknowledge His existence or even possible existence, we can talk specifics. I am going to make the assumption that you are not used to be on the defensive. As soon as I or anyone de...

ok, I'll take your silence on the question as an affirmation that you agree with me that there is no evidence that there is no God. Now, this is where we go to evidence of God. Like EL said in the original post, it is not possible to prove to someone that there is a God if they are unwilling to acce...

It's a shame you couldn't have visited my apartment last school year, I think I could have made you think twice about the flying spaghetti monster. I definitely think it was living in my kitchen for a while. :) Maybe if you would have offered it some burnt offerings it would have been appeased and ...

Album costs whatever you want to pay!!!
This might be old news to you all, But for those of you who don't follow Radiohead, they just released their latest album In Rainbows . They are selling the album independently online and when you order the downloadable version of the album, you name your price and then download it. I thought it was...

Wow, cut out the foreplay and get right to it, why don't you. These have been around for a few years at this point, but I'll repeat them here (I had posted them on the OLD P-Web, but all that disappeared when the site crashed) Boothby's five rules of theological debate: RULES I'll keep that in mind...

If He does exist, then why shouldn't it be provable Good. Start proving. BTW, (Steve as Steve here), just copying and pasting various passages from the bible in a loosely veiled and pitifully sorry attempt to proselytize is boring, beaten totally to death, and in bad taste. Didn't even cross my min...

Right. My point is, is that Atheism is a foolish and unsubstantial view WTF? Maybe you can show me how atheism is any more foolish than a fervent belief in Christ. Or how a belief in Christ is any more substantial than my belief in the absence of Christ. But nobody I know claims the non-existence of...

My point is, is that Atheism is a foolish and unsubstantial view 1) I never said I was an atheist. 2) Please do not insult view points different than yours, I know you are new but read the first topic in this board. I was stating my opinion, I wouldn't label anyone as foolish just for being an athe...
