See, I disagree, Brent. I think you can learn proper grammar in an English class. I'm enrolled in a class entitled "Structures of the English Language" (taught by the President of the American Dialect Society--if you've read any AP stories about "new" words being added to the dic...

Anon, it never ceases to amaze me that no matter how many discussions we have, you always end up responding to things I've never said. I never said we could line people up based purely on race. In fact, if you'll read my post, I agreed rather strongly with Jason that there is a significant portion o...

I think that's exactly what everyone is saying: the evidence isn't there. Or at least, they've haven't presented it with their claims and nothing we've seen is strong enough to conclude that. To clarify your point on his results: they showed that there was no significant gap at age one. The opposite...

Jason, You and Kirsten seemed to be the only people talking about the science of it. Everyone else, it seems to me, is whining about the political correctness of the situation. As far as the black vs white reaction in the thread, I wasn't making any kind of universal claim. I just thought it was mil...

Zero, natives tend to pronounce it with the "el" sound, over the "ill" sound. There is a pretty big portion of people who have moved here from somewhere else who do it in reverse, of course. But even the wankers in Chicago tend to pronounce it with the "el." *shrugs* As...

Amka, if you haven't already, you should really read what Galileo has to say about science and religion. It seems that your view and his are essentially the same. I'm pretty sure most of them can be found in his Letter to the Grand Duchess Christina.

*cough* The Bell Curve *cough* The Bell Jar is a novel by Sylvia Plath, which is--I'm assuming--what Kelly hates. As far as The Bell Curve goes, I find it slightly amusing that people get so worked up over it, when in reality most of them haven't read it. Only two chapters deal with the racial intel...

It's always mildly amusing when one attacks you for traits that he or she also has. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v297/bchornet/a812_bm.gif You've managed to insist that people: * agree with you before you'll participate in a discussion. * prove negatives. * define terms for themselves in order ...

It's not like we haven't had the discussion, before, vendor. I mean, we've hashed this out in half a dozen threads on the old forum. And to be fair, that thread was kind of lame. It wasn't a discussion, it was a "here's my preference!" list-a-thon. Which, you know, is fine, if that's all y...

Creationism and Evolution, or Beating a Dead Hyracotherium

Alright, I have no idea where to even start with this topic, seamusz. You say you believe in micro-evolution, but not macro-evolution. How do you justify believing in one but not the other when both are based entirely on the same principles? How do you explain complete (and near-complete) transitive...

Why "sorry mormons"? I don't think that I feel like I can say that I agree with this... I believe that he organized the matter that was already there. But I do refer to him as my creator... let me do a bit of study on it. Mormons believe that matter is co-eternal with God, and as such, he...

Isn't the point of an All-X God that He is better than mankind? Of course, it really depends on how we're defining God, again. We simply can't say the Judeo-Christian-Islamic God, in this case, because the God of the Tanakh and the God of the New Covenant act in two very distinct ways.

Personal responsibility was very important in my upbringing. I'm responsible for my own actions, therefore I need to deal with the consequences. That's all there was to it.
