Re: It's not AIM, But..

Ah, sorry, I forgot entirely she'd put it in there. And nothing actually replaces this place, which is part of why I'm (failingly) trying to spend more time here

It's not AIM, But..

EL set up a pweb Discord, which was mentioned to some people on facebook, but obviously we don't have everyone there. If anyone would like to join it, send me a pm and I'll give you an invite link. It's pretty quiet right now, but if people are interested, it would give a chance to have a chat setti...

Re: Guilty Pleasures and Irrational Irritations

It makes sense, especially when it comes to missing books (that remain missing, that is), even though it sucks. I'm a little shocked at library fees going into collection, though.

Re: Things that I love

It thankfully rained before and after we arrived back in BC for a visit, so there hasn't been much smoke here, either, which is a relief. It was really bad just before we arrived.

I read the first book, got pissed off at the narrative betrayal, and wanted nothing else to do with it :P I'm told it's pretty good, though

Re: Guilty Pleasures and Irrational Irritations

Ahahahah EL once had 1000 pounds in library fines, between missing books and late fees. To be fair, this was in amidst the end of a pretty intense pregnancy and the various academic libraries forgave most of the fines when the books were returned and explanations given. It really sucks that your cur...

While this is possible, I had got to question how strong the tea you've had has been. Because strongly brewed tea should have flavour... But then I also really love tea.

I hear you on wanting exercise to just be a natural part of life, rather than a focal point. I'm kind of hoping that when the school year picks up I'll ride my bicycle more (because I suck at getting up on time to get the kids out the door on time for school). I keep meaning to just take along the p...

I've heard good things about the show (admittedly I've not heard much about the show, but what I've heard has been positive). I still have yet to read any Atwood novels >_>

Re: What's up for getaways this summer ?

If we want human remains, there's decent odds of literally tripping over them in any one of our local church yards, really. One of our friends was on a class trip to a church yard, without a license to dig, and someone accidentally tripped over a tibia and unearthed it. I think the general refrain w...

There really is a lot to be said for just a quiet get away, as opposed to a big vacation. I'm a huge fan of getting home feeling a bit rested, as opposed to needing a vacation to recover from my vacation!

Sadly we did not have time to look at it. We were restricted by the bus times (one bus in and one bus out, Sundays and Bank Holidays only during the peak season). I would love to go back and see that and the Medieval deer park, as well as seeing the abbey again.

Re: What's up for getaways this summer ?

Yesterday we went to Fountains Abbey . It was kind of incredibly spectacular. The ruins are extensive and there was even a first floor room that you could go up into, which is something I've never heard of elsewhere. Afterwards, we walked along a path that took us by several follies overlooking Stud...

I don't think I've ever lived somewhere that it was a term used. I'm also not sure I wouldn't be entertained to hear it used, just because it would be quite novel.

EL's computer is being a pain, so here is an additional post by her: I remain unapologetic about my love for this book and story. It’s hard to be a fan when the author is so vocal about holding views contrary to mine, views I cannot support at all. But I’m an Ender fan, not a Card fan. Once upon a t...

Re: Things I Don't Understand

We are in the UK, so I'm not sure if the same programmes exist or not, although it may be worthwhile for us to look into. If worse comes to worst, we will look at legal action, but we are hoping to sort it through dialogue first as that would be far more affordable and hopefully less drawn out than ...

I'll keep that in mind, then, for future. The volume I'm borrowing from a friend has the fourth one in there, and it feels odd to not finish the bound volume, but I don't want to burn out on it either. I'll probably at least get to reading Tehanu at some point.

I just finished reading the third Earthsea novel, and I am quite tempted to stop there. And it would give me a chance to read the latest Thursday Next ...
